Alan E. Patterson, age 48, of Plano, IL died on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Hayward, WI. One of five children, Al was born in Oak Park, IL on February 23, 1971, the son of Albert A. and Susan L. (Schilling) Patterson. Al grew up in Bloomingdale, IL and later moved to the Patterson’s lake house in Whitewater, WI. He graduated from Whitewater High School in 1989, and later received his Associate’s Degree in Automotive Service Technology from the College of DuPage. Al married Diane Ritter in 1999 and they had one son, Bradly Patterson. Al was also a father to Joshua Patterson and Benjamin Roeling. He enjoyed going to Bradly’s many band concerts and was proud of Bradly starting college at UW-Stout this past fall. Al also loved going to Josh’s school activities, and sharing his love for the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling in northern Wisconsin. He owned a cabin in Winter, WI where he spent most weekends enjoying the outdoors with his boys, good friends, siblings, and anyone else who wanted to join the fun. Al loved hosting friends and family up north whenever he could.
Al owned Al’s Car Care in Yorkville, IL for many years. He made friends with everyone who walked in his shop, and was always willing to help a friend or family member fix anything that had a motor. Customers would often see Al’s boys hanging out at the shop, and he loved to teach them all he could about motors.
Al leaves behind many loved ones who will continue to celebrate his memory by telling stories of times they shared with him. Al lived his life carefree, with no filter or fear of judgement. He was always the life of the party and could make anyone laugh. For anyone that had the pleasure to know Al, he will be truly missed.
He is survived by his three children: Bradly and Joshua Patterson of Plano, IL and Benjamin Roeling of Streator, IL; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Roeling; his mother and father: Albert and Susan Patterson of Roselle, IL. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters: Dawn Patterson, Karen (Dirk) Gatewood, Eric (Julie) Patterson, and Nancy (Jesse) Debroux; his nieces and nephews: Corinne, Lauren, Jameson, and Cora Gatewood, Gabriel, Nathan, and Kayleigh Patterson, Adam and Owen Debroux; many close friends; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents George and Anita Patterson and Oscar and Lillian Schilling.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 3:00 until 9:00 PM at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel in Roselle, IL with visitation and a prayer service at 9:00 AM on Friday, March 22, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the A-T Children’s Project, https://www.atcp.org/get-involved/donate/ in memory of Al Patterson.

Prayers for healing to his family and friends who all knew Al exactly as described above. Growing up with Al it was evident he didn’t care what others thought but it was obvious that he cared for others and shared his knowledge of anything mechanical. His passion to repair and succeed made him a successful businessman and he was immediate to pick up the phone and call back with an answer reference a question or the type of guy that would drop any anything to help out somebody in need. Truly an honor to have known Al. Your legacy lives on in your family . Many great memories of a great guy that lived life to the fullest.

We met Al only once, but that was enough to automatically love the man who fixed our car and treated us as if we were old friends. We called last Monday to make an appointment at the shop to bring our car in, and were told about his death. We were both dumbfounded by the death of this young man, who everyone seems to have nothing but good things to say, both for the man himself, and the work he did on their vehicles. He left this earth far too soon, and our hearts go out to his children who lost their dad so unexpectedly.

I am, as we all are so deeply saddened about loosing Alan. He was not only a neighbor but a wonderful friend for many years. There are few in life that make such a special and precious impression in others hearts. He was always willing to dive in and help others sort out their mechanical issues and educate, but more importantly the humor when we spent time kicking back after hours with a few beers. Very few have I shared moments of sharing life experiences that have brought such wonderful laughs and the warmth and closeness that we experienced together. My heart goes out in a very tender way to his family, close friends, and very specially to his sons. The Patterson family was kind, hospitable and one of the best! Al will be missed, but always and forever will his memory remain precious and special in our hearts.

His laugh was contagious and no matter what he was the guy that would always have your back, be by your side...through the good, bad and everything in between. I was blessed to know you, laugh with you, cry with you and the singing and cocktails still put a smile on my face. Thank you Al for welcoming me into your world, being there for me, your friendship has brought me so much happiness. I first met Al when I was teaching nights at College of DuPage, he was......enthusiastic, to say the least. I realized that he had a set of "golden hands", he could fix just about anything he touched, if he wanted to. My brother and I hired him to work at our auto repair shop in Wheaton, his "golden hands" were quite an asset. We pretty much always got along great with Al, he was headstrong, but most of our views on the industry in general were the same and we couldn't help but like him, even though at time he could be a "character", that's just how he was. We have kept in touch, not regularly, but from time to time over the phone to talk about running an auto repair shop, it was nice to bounce ideas off of each other. He will be missed, by many I am sure, and I have best wishes for his family as they go on through life with out his often infectious "presence" God speed Al.

My heart is heavy for Al’s sons, his family and friends. What a great guy. Always loud, unfiltered, and loved to live life. I ran into him last year and he proudly showed me how clean his hands were. He was a successful business man now and not working in the cars as much anymore. I didn’t believe it because he always had his hands in some mess of a motor. He would make us laugh until we cried and our stomachs ached. He has been a part of my kid’s lives since they were born, especially my son who learned to hunt with Al, Kevin and Phil. We loved him and he is gone too soon. His boys and family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you all find comfort in your memories and always know how much he loved you and loved to have you in his life. What a loss. RIP Big Guy. Stand strong together Pattersons. You are a beautiful family and he would want you to continue to live your lives to the fullest like he did. I am so sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences to the family, I am so saddened to hear this. Al worked on our cars for many years and was always as honest and fair as could be, he even offered his vehicle to me to drive an engine to my daughter in Missouri, now who does that? We will miss our fun conversations with him, he could always make us laugh, his friendly smile when you walked into his shop and all his kindnesses shown over the years. He will be deeply missed. Our deepest condolences to the family. Rest In Peace buddy. Lori Anne, Sarah and Emily

I can not believe this I have Know Al for a long time. When we got together it was always a fun time either riding the Harley's around were he lived ,or packing up the ATV's in the summer and heading up north for a fun summer weekend or a fun filled weekend in the winter on the snowmobiles doing what he loved to do. I enjoyed going to his shop AL's Car Care and working on some cars for him or even running the shop when he went up north to have fun with his boy's. I also had a blast with him working on his own cars and of course the many lifted bronco's and trucks he had the most recent the Red one. I have a lot of great memories with Al . I know he is having fun were he is but he is also going to be looking down on his boy's watching them enjoy life and doing what he taught them and enjoyed seeing them do in life. He will be missed by a lot of friends Family and his extended family of all his customers from the shop. R.I.P Al .
