Visitation Time: All Services will be private.
Interment:

Betty Jean Overbeek (nee Peters), 75, of Glendale Heights, formerly of Addison and Chicago, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, at home surrounded by her family after a five-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Betty grew up in Chicago, and was a June 1962 graduate of Steinmetz High School. As a teen, she worked at the Mars Candy Co. near her home, and then later at Zenith Electronics. For many years, she was an active stay-at-home mother to her three children, before returning to work in the mid 1980s at Master Impressions of Addison. In 1997, she earned an associate’s degree from College of DuPage. She then worked as an executive assistant at Boise Cascade Office Products, Itasca, and OfficeMax Corporate Headquarters, Naperville, until her retirement in 2014.
In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, as family was everything to her. She was adored by her grandchildren and went out of her way to create special memories, plan silly games, and establish family traditions in hopes they would be carried on for years to come. She was often spotted on the sidelines at her grandchildren’s many sporting events and activities. She was their biggest fan and supporter in everything they did.
She maintained many friendships from all aspects of her life, including a group of girlfriends from her elementary and high school days. She had a contagious zest for life, sparking new friendships wherever she went. She embodied pure kindness and class, and she touched the lives of so many with her generous spirit, witty stories and playful sense of humor.
Travel was one of her priorities, and her adventures included visiting her dear cousins in Scotland, parasailing in Saint Martin, cycling around Mackinac Island, watching dolphins in Florida, attending the Rose Bowl and Parade in Pasadena, strolling the tulip festival in Holland, learning to make pasta in Italy, cruising through New Zealand, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and, most recently, riding roller coasters at Tokyo Disney. Many of her trips were through a Wheaton-based travel club called My Travel MeetUp.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Addison, and formerly of Grace Lutheran Church, Bensenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Elizabeth (nee Moffat) Peters, and her grandson Matthew Overbeek. She is survived by her sister, Donna Peters Robinson of Sycamore; her three children, David (Haley) Overbeek of Bloomingdale, Steven (Cindy) Overbeek of Plainfield, and Kristin (Eddie) Wagner of Bartlett; and her six grandchildren, Ashley, Kelly, Carson, Kayla, Xander, and Reese.
Donations are welcome to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at lustgarten.org.
A memorial service will be planned for late spring/summer.
