David B. Eichhorst, age 65 of Glen Ellyn, beloved husband of Pamela (nee DiFiglia); devoted father of Christopher, Aaron (Cheryl), Ryan, Matthew, Scott (Debra), Jeffrey (Alissa), Michelle (Israel), and Sarah (Christopher); proud Papa of Francesca, Sophia, Derek, Brennan, Makayla, Gavin and Addison; loving son of Harry and the late Lucille; dear brother of Bruce, Diane (Marsha) and Gerald (Stephanie), and dear uncle to Chris Julian, Tiffany Hertel, Danielle Whelpley, Marcia Eichhorst, Sarah Maestas, Timothy Varjan, Emily Eichhorst and Ethan Eichhorst.

Dave was born on January 5, 1955 to Harry and Lucille Eichhorst in Geneva, Illinois. He grew up as the oldest of four children to his siblings Bruce, Dee Dee, and Jerry in their family home on Olive Court in Carol Stream. He spent his teenage years like any kid growing up in the 70’s, playing 16″ softball, going to the Indiana dunes, snowmobiling and for some reason, disco dancing. He graduated from Glenbard North High School in 1974 and in the years that followed he was given the gift of his beloved sons through his first marriage – Christopher, Aaron, Ryan, and Matthew.

In 1978, Dave completed his apprenticeship training with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 265 union and became a Journeyman Sheet Metal worker. His career in sheet metal spanned over 30 years, with 25 of them spent working at Komfort Heating and Air Conditioning. After his retirement, Dave kept busy as a lead driver for GCA Services Group alongside his best friends, Frank and Joe.

In the early 90’s, Dave met “his sweetie” Pamela at the Video Plus Emporium across the street from his house on North Avenue. On September 22, 1995, they were married and Dave quickly gained four additional children – Scott, Jeffrey, Michelle, and Sarah. Together, they celebrated holidays, birthdays, vacations, and casual weekends with all eight of their kids. The two bought their first home together on Highland Avenue in Glen Ellyn, where they’ve lived for the past twenty years. They celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this year and have been together for nearly 30 years.

One of his proudest accomplishments was being a doting and loving Papa to his seven grandchildren, Francesca, Derek, Sophia, Brennan, Makayla, Gavin, and Addison. He was given his cherished nickname of “Papa Shirley” by his oldest grandson after being crowned the winner of a round of Pretty Pretty Princess. A kid at heart, he happily took the kids bowling, to the movies, or the Glendale Heights Fest, and they knew they could count on him to attend any dance recital, band concert, or baseball game that they asked of him.

Dave’s passions in life included fishing, playing golf, and turkey shoots at the local VFWs, alongside his love of desserts (with extra whipped cream), kid’s cartoons, and spending time on his tractor. Dave was known for always being there when you needed him, his kind demeanor, infectious smile and quick wit. His family and friends will miss the warmth his presence brought, his boisterous laugh, and his gentle bear hugs.

Visitation and funeral services for Dave will be held on Friday, March 13 from 3:00 – 9:00 PM at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, located at 450 W. Lake Street in Roselle, Illinois 60172. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s name to the Glen Oaks Hospital Foundation.

I have many fond memories of conversations with Dave over the years. He was always there to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Such a kind man with a wonderful smile and always a good story to share. I will miss him as I know so many others will as well. I am keeping you all in thought and prayer. Love to you all.

He was my first nephew. I was so thrilled to be an Aunt. David was born 11 years and 4 days after me, so we kind of grew up together. He was very special to me and will live in my heart forever. He's now in heaven with his Mother, his Grandparents and his Uncle/Godfather Wally. May God hold David in His Loving Arms. My love and prayers are with Pam, Chris, Aaron, Ryan, Matt, Scott, Jeffrey, Michelle and Sarah.
