Dee Bernardin

Funeral Notes: All Services will be private
Interment: Queen of Heaven Cemetery

Dee Bernardin was magnetic. She was raised an only child by her doting mother and her father who worked as a tailor and dressed her in beautiful custom outfits. Her Italian heritage inspired her cooking, her glamorous style, and her love for Frank Sinatra. She adored her German Shepherds Smokey and Brando. In 1956, she met her husband, Bob. She was married to the love of her life for 64 years. Together they raised 5 children in a stable and loving home in Elmhurst, later becoming grandparents to 17. They enjoyed dancing, playing Scrabble and cards, and vacationing to St. Augustine and Miami Beach. Dee was charismatic and had a beautiful laugh—she showed her family how to live life to the fullest. Her infectious energy uplifted her children and left them feeling like they could do anything. She made them feel as special as she was.

She was the best! I have so many memories of getting to open post cards with a surprise juicy fruit piece of gum from her while she was in Miami. We would do garage sales, have dinners, make home made raviolis, and watch movies. I spent so many days last summer losing to her in scrabble games. I was at her house when I got accepted into college. I’ll miss her contagious laugh and seeing her get all dressed up for dinner, even if it was just at our house. Home won’t be the same without her.
