Dr. Louis R. Pointon, 79 of Bloomingdale, IL passed away on the first day of fall, Saturday, September 22, 2022. After battling illness for a long time, Lou died in his home, surrounded by friends and loved ones. He was the loving life partner and husband of Keith L. Brickey.

Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Henry S. and Isabelle E. (Lebouf) Pointon. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Henry Pointon Jr., Norman Pointon, Pauline Pointon Martin, and Robert Pointon. And he is survived by his husband, Keith L. Brickey.

Lou loved to learn. He earned a bachelors degree in 1963 in French and Biology from the University of Rhode Island. Then he studied in France through Assumption College and obtained his Masters of Arts in Teaching. He then moved to Syracuse, New York and taught French in the University of New York School System. Next he attended Northern Illinois University studying Educational Media and Library Science. This was where, in 1973 he met the love of his life. Lou moved to Dubuque, Iowa to teach, and he and Keith commuted to see each other every weekend. Then Lou became the head of the library science program for all of Peken, Illinois, heading up their high school library system and designing their library. In 1979 Lou and Keith were able to move to Kansas together, where Lou finished his Masters of Library Science at Emporia State University and he taught Library Science. His desire to learn was still vibrant, though, and he graduated in the top 20% of his class from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas earning his Juris Doctor. In 1986 Lou moved back to Illinois and started a career as a research attorney for the Illinois appellate court.

Fluent in English and French, Lou also spoke Spanish, Latin and German. Which came in handy when he and Keith travelled the world. They explored Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, England, France Amsterdam, Austria and many other places. His favorite place to visit was Vienna Austria. Lou loved the music, the dance, the vibrant art of this beautiful city. One of the great thrills of his life was attending the opera there.

Lou loved the arts. Lou and Keith were lyric opera members and had season tickets to Jury Lane in Oak Brook. And he loved the Carpenters. Keith and Lou would listen ‘Ticket to Ride’ and to ‘Top of the World’ in their old sportscar as they travelled the backroads.

Lou faced many health challenges with bravery. He battled Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, liver cancer and Parkinsons with a resolve that was inspiring. Yet his love was boundless. His smile was radiant. And his joy was contagious. He will be greatly missed.

Lou was a great supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Donations to this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.
