John Francis Power of Elk Grove Village, IL passed away at Alexian Brother’s Hospice Residence on June 29th, 2017. He was born on June 21st in the Bronx, NY. He was the beloved husband to Debra Doll-Power, and they were married on September 16th, 2005. John is survived by his loving wife Debra Doll-Power, his two sons John W. Power and Austin Smith, his granddaughter Liyah Power, sister Carol Baratta (Jack), as well as his nieces and nephews, Jeanine Maroon-Hassert (Kurt), Daniel Baratta, John Maroon (Noelle), and Jennifer Baratta-Felson (Glenn). John will also be forever remembered by his loving extended family members and dear friends. John is preceded by his Father John F. Power, his Mother Catherine I. Rowan-Power, and his Sister Marilyn F. Maroon.

John graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Denver with his Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He began his career in 1973 with Hilton and had a long and prosperous 25-year career working for both Hilton and Hyatt International Hotels. He started out working for Hilton in Denver, CO right out of college and soon moved to Cincinnati, OH to become the Director of Catering at the Terrace Hilton. In 1978, John was promoted to the Assistant Food and Beverage Director for the New Orleans Hilton and one year later assumed full responsibility for the food and beverage operations at the Dallas Hilton. In 1982, John was appointed Food and Beverage Director for the prestigious Fontainebleau Hilton Resort in Miami Beach. After Miami, he was promoted to the position of Resident Manager for the New York Hilton and Towers. In 1986 John was once again promoted and was the youngest General Manager in the history of Hilton Hotels, managing all aspects of the New York Hilton. Following his tenure with Hilton, John went on to become the General Manager for the UN Plaza-Park Hyatt International. During this time, he was also served as the President of the New York State Restaurant Association. He then went on to open Pitahayas, a Five-Star Restaurant in Cabo Del Sol, Mexico, which is still open to this day. John concluded is hotel and restaurant management career as the General Manager of the Double Tree in Chicago.

The life and accomplishments of John F. Power cannot be simply summed up in a short summary of words. The people he has touched in his lifetime will never forget him, and his legacy will forever live on.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday July 8th from 12-4 pm at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel, 450 W. Lake St, Roselle, IL 60172.

John, you were a joy to work with at AMFAM. A very compassionate man with a captivating smile and great sense of humor. I will miss our chats over a good glass of single malt. You brightened my life. You will be forever missed by those whose lives you touched. God Bless you my friend. R.I.P.

Thank you for being my step father. Will never forget playing stick ball with you, and travelling to Cincy, New Orleans, and Dallas, amongst others. I found a picture of you and I at six flags in Cincy, looking at it. RIP LOVE YOU
