Joselito Vitug

Visitation Time: All Services will be private.
Interment:

It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of Joselito T. Vitug due to complications from a long battle with the COVID-19 virus. He died peacefully on May 6, 2020.

Joselito T. Vitug was born to parents Jose and Consuelo Vitug, on August 16, 1945, in Lubao, Pampanga, Philippines. He graduated from the University of the East in the Philippines with a degree in Accounting.

He is survived by Yolanda, the love of his life. Joselito is also survived by his daughter Lalaine (husband Nathan), son Joel (wife Maria), as well as grandsons Ryne, Tyler, Jaryd, and Carter. He was also a beloved brother to the late Remberto (Tess), as well as to Nelson (Alice), Cynthia (Reynaldo), Imelda (Sulito) and Jocelyn. He is a dear uncle to many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

He came to Chicago on March 13, 1971 and his family shortly followed several months later. He petitioned his parents a few years later and they petitioned the rest of the siblings and families to America.

Joselito had a great sense of humor and wit. He was very intelligent and hard-working with his businesses. He was kind, loving, and generous to his family and friends. Joselito was also known for his great love of music. Without formal musical education and knowing how to read notes, he taught himself to play multiple instruments. He also loved to sing. Because of these talents and love for music, he and his close friends formed a band that played at weddings and social gatherings in the Chicago area.

Joselito was very active in the Filipino community. He founded and was the first president of Samahang Filipino in Chicago, West Suburban Civic Group, and Lubenian Club of Chicago.

Joselito will be remembered as a loving, gentle, and kind man who was always there for his family and friends. He will be missed greatly.

Memorial services will be held at Salerno’s Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Roselle and will be interred at Assumption Cemetery in West Chicago. Dates and times will be announced shortly.

How unfortunate that I have not visited my FB page for a while and today, my wife asked if I saw a friend request from Yoly Vitug, his wife. I said no and immediately I had a bad hunch about Joe. I looked him up in Google and found his obituary. Joe Vitug was a great mentor to me when I started out as a field auditor in the Chicago office of the FTB in the early 1980’s. I can say that I learned a lot about tax audit from Joe and will forever be in his debt. My wife and I visited Joe and Yoly and Lalaine in Henderson NV in November 2017 and we enjoyed their company and the tour of their home plus the visit to their local casino. In our visit, we found out about the various health crisis that he and Yoly went through. In spite of everything that had happened, I noticed Joe never lost a beat with his humor. This trait is what’s needed now in the state of the world. I will miss you Joe, your humor and above all, your friendship. Again, I’ll say thanks for the help when I needed it, and well done my friend. Adios. My deepest sympathy to the immediate family of Joe Vitug. From Grace and Eli Diego (June 15, 2020)

So sorry for your loss. I only met your dad a handful if times but I remember he always had a smile on his face. At Carter's graduation he was teaching a few words in Tagalog because I mentioned that my boss at the time was Filipina and was going back to visit her dad. Love to you all.

We have known Uncle Lito and his family since my own family migrated to the US since 1990. He treated my siblings and me as his own children. We spent a lot of time with him during the times of JR LIMO and Jackson Hewitt. He would always make sure that we were fed and got home safe after working at JR LIMO. My late Ate Nylah gave him his nickname ”TOLITS.” As I started to have my own family, he treated my own children as his own grandchildren. He would have the biggest smile on his face as he gives the kids a hug. Thank you for everything that you have done for me and my family. Thank you for being special support for my twin-sister Jen, Edwin, Tete, Ica, and EJ. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE LOVE THAT YOU HAVE SHOWN US. WE WILL MISS SEEING YOUR BIG SMILE AND YOUR GREAT LAUGH. Though my heart aches that you are no longer with us, I know you are in a better place with Ate Nylah, Leif, Tatang, Ima, Auntie Mar, Uncle Max, and Auntie Rose. We love you. To Tita Yoly, Kuya Joel and family, Ate Lalaine and family, and the entire VITUG family our deepest sympathy.
