The son of Loretta (nee Muscarello) and Jasper DeSanto, Joe was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He was a survivor of the tragic Our Lady of the Angels school fire. After high school graduation Joe served in the Armed Forces and was Honorably Discharged in 1970.

He married Barbara in 1971 and they shared their lives together until Barbara’s passing in 1994. They began raising their children, Christina and Monica, in Chicago and moved to Elmhurst, IL in 1985.

In 2001 Joe married Diann and together they enjoyed being Mima and Papa to the seven grandchildren they had as they combined families until Diann’s passing in 2014.

Joe retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Joe could always be found working on a project around the house, doing yard work, or watching a Cubs game. Joe also enjoyed cooking, reading, and was an avid horse racing fan.

In 2019, Joe was stricken ill, robbing him of much of his abilities. He spent the majority of the past two years being cared for by the talented and dedicated caregivers of Amita Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village.

Joe is survived by his daughters Christina (Bruce) and Monica (Anthony); stepchildren Richard (Karen) and David (Jodie); 7 grandchildren- Olivia, Kevin, Nathanael, Austin, Ty, Jayden, Marlee; his nieces Nancy and Joann, his nephew Benny, and their immediate families.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara; his second wife Diann; his parents Loretta and Jasper, and his sisters Ann Marie and Nancy.
