Kenneth Jack Lahner of Itasca, IL, devoted family man, community leader, successful business man and proud Republican passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017. Earlier in the evening he attended a family dinner with his wife, all of his children, in-laws and grandchildren. Upon returning home from dinner he passed away. The family will forever treasure this last get together filled with laughter and love.

Ken was born in Chicago, IL January 12, 1933 to Herman and Mary (Rohrer) Lahner. He served as a Sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War. After leaving the Air Force, Ken began his service to the community of Itasca. He served 10 years on the Board of the Itasca Park District, with a term as President and was instrumental in starting the Itasca Nature Center and the Itasca Pool. He was also a leader in community philanthropy starting the Jaycees in Itasca as well as being a longtime member of the Lions Club, Indian Princess and Indian Guide Clubs.

Politics was Ken’s passion. He served in many capacities during his career; Precinct Captain for Addison Township, was a DuPage County Board Member, Forest Preserve Commissioner, Chairman of the Public Works Dept. and Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee. He then served as the DuPage County Recorder of Deeds and later the DuPage County Comptroller.

Ken said he left politics, however no one ever believed him, to become Vice President/General Manager of Elmhurst Chicago Stone where he worked for over 25 years. Recently he helped develop the Brewster Creek Industrial Park in Bartlett.

Of all of Ken’s accomplishments in life he was most proud of his family. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Lois Lahner (nee Dolph). He was a devoted father to Kerry Lahner Jennejahn, Scott (Nicoletta) Lahner, Christopher (Lisa) Lahner and the late Kimberly Lahner. Loving Grandfather of Shannon, Jonathan, Kenneth, Grace, Sarah, Morgan, Emma, Jack and Joshua. Great-Grandfather of Vernon. Ken was the dear brother of Kathleen (Lloyd) Abrahamson, Patricia (Jorge) Castro, the late Roland Lahner and Dennis (Sharon) Carter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Above all Ken was most dedicated to his family and his loyal friends. His generosity and ability to “broker” the deal was unsurpassed. He taught us many life lessons and he will sadly missed by all who knew him best.

Visitation will be on Thursday November 16, 2017 from 3-9:00 PM at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, Roselle, with a funeral  mass on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, Itasca. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DuPage Foundation for the Kimberly Lahner Memorial Scholarship 3000 Woodcreek Dr. Suite 310 Downers Grove, IL 60515-5408  The family also invites to visit the website and sign the guest book www.salernofuneralhomes.com.

Lois and Family, It is with very sad Hearts that my Wife, Nancy and I, say farewell to our dear, dear friend. Over 40 years of friendship , consisting of so many times that Ken was there for me, with not only his friendship, but his financial support, that helped to insure my successful Elections. He then went on to support my Step-Sons, Kevin and Randy Ramey, in their careers in Busness and Politics. Most recently, he headed a committee to have my Bronze Bust installed at the County Complex. I have charished his friendship and most recently, since I am retired, meeting him for lunch in Elmhurst at one of our favorite lunch stops. I feel truly Blessed to have had Ken as my Friend. We will sincerely miss him. God Bless you Ken.

Lois and Lahner Family, We are so deeply sadden by the passing of Ken. Words cannot express the loss we are feeling now and void that will always be there in hearts. Ken was always family to Terry and became family to Liana and I over the years. There is already an emptiness in Ki’s as we are expecting him to still walk in the door any minute. He will always be in our hearts and prayers. Know that all of you are a part of our family and Ki’s forever. All our love.

I worked with/for Ken at Elmhurst-Chicago Stone. He was and will always be part of my fondest memories of my many years there. In the years after I left my employment there but went back to visit, he was always one of the people I sought out. And, he never disappointed with his inquiries about my family. My sympathies to his family - of whom he spoke so fondly and regularly.

To Ken's beloved family -- I had the privilege of getting to know Ken when I went to work for the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers in 1996. He went out of his way to help me and the industry that I served. Ken became a valued mentor and a steadfast friend throughout my career. I will always be indebted to him for his support and kindness. Your have my deepest sympathies.

Dear Lois and family of Kenny, We were so shocked and saddened by the news of Kenny's death. He was a wonderful man and we saw him almost every time we were at DeMarco's. He always had a smile on his face, even when we knew he wasn't in the best of health, and many times he had a funny story to tell! We will always remember him, especially when it comes time to buy squares on the NCAA board!!!! He will be missed by so many. With caring and sympathy, Lynn and Ed Marinelli

Ken was a loving and generous man and will be missed and remembered by many. His philanthropic generosity was above and beyond the normal. He always worried about everyone else and always wanted to bring a smile to everyone he knew before his own struggles. He deflected when you asked about him to always ask how you were and how he could help others. I was blessed to know him for the little time I did and I hope that the memories of Ken bring his family comfort. He loved his family very much and was always smiling when he talked about his kids and grandchildren. His love for Lois his wife was deep. I will miss him. Karen
