Stanley Edward Poplonski, 73, of Bloomingdale, Illinois passed away in his home on November 29th, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Branka Poplonski; devoted father of Mark and Eric Poplonski; loving son of the late Chester and Wanda Poplonski; dear brother of Chet Poplonski and the late Christine (Krysia) Self; proud grandfather of Felix Poplonski and dearu uncle of Jennifer Eaves.
Stan was born in Leon, Mexico to two proud Polish WWII refugees, immigrating to the United States at a young age with his parents and younger sister Krysia. They settled in Chicago and completed the family with the addition of his younger brother Chet, who became his lifelong best friend. Stan honorably served in the US Army, stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam War where he met his future wife. He ended up taking his mother’s advice literally when she said, “bring me home a souvenir” and came back married to Branka Ucakar Poplonski, with whom he spent the next 48 wonderful years. Together, they raised two wonderful twin boys, Mark and Eric Poplonski. He retired early (or so he thought) until his loving wife put him to work for her and pushed him to make some new friends. For the past 20 years, Stan dedicated his life to volunteer work for the local community. His constant acts of selflessness and kindness became commonplace to anyone who met him. Outside of his family, becoming a Cake Ball Connoisseur and joining the Lions Club became his life’s work. His dedication to the organization became second to none. Stan and Branka went dancing every weekend (often to the tunes of Rick Lindy), and their passion and love for one another was just as strong as the first time they laid eyes on each other. He was blessed one more time with the birth of his first grandchild, Felix Stanley Poplonski, who he loved adoringly. Stan was a man who had many talents, a “larger than life” personality and a sense of humor that would leave even the most devout silent monks laughing in stitches. He will be missed by countless people, but he will never be forgotten.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 11th from 3pm-9pm at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel at 450 W Lake Street, Roselle, IL 60172. The funeral mass will take place on Saturday, December 12th at 9:30am at Saint Isidore Parish officiated by Father Jim Murphy. If you wish to join virtually, the mass will be live streamed at https://vimeo.com/event/489608. The family is having a private cremation ceremony to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the Bloomingdale Lions Club or Prostate Cancer Research. To donate to Prostate Cancer Research go to http://support.zerocancer.org. Stas has been a friend for many years. He was a good brother to Chris and Chet. We lived in a great community where not only did we all hang out together, but we have kept in contact with each other all these years later. I am thankful for our friendships and how Branka became our friend when she married Stas. I am going to miss his crazy jokes and sense of humor. I always enjoyed hearing about Eric and Mark, and Eric, Kaitlyn and his new grandson Felix. I’ll also miss his stories, he was such a good story teller especially on what Branka had him doing to keep him busy, because he cant retire yet!! And of course, the cake balls!! Thank you, Stas for your service during the Viet Nam years. Bless all of you and know I am thinking of you every day. Stas will be missed. Take care. Love, Karen

I've always seen Stan and Branca at the Rick Lindy shows for the past couple of years dancing the night away ..or with the other lovely ladies that love to dance. He would always give me a smile and a nod.... One day this year, while I was trying to take pictures of the band, Stan realized that I was always trying to get a picture without him being in it...He is a good foot taller than I am so I had to stretch sometimes. He came over and apologized for being in the way and officially introduced himself. I said that he is never in my way and don't stop dancing! The next words were about his love for baking and the famous "cake balls"..followed by his funny jokes and telling my husband and I about his family and the Lions Club, etc. We were instant friends. At the next show, Stan came up to us and asked my husband if he could steal me for a dance. My husband was like sure. I said I really didn't dance, especially not as good as I have seen him dance with Branca and the other ladies. He said he would teach me and was determined to get me out of my shell and be on dancing with the Stars! LOL It was so great to meet Stan and enjoy his company at the shows and hear all of his stories from his younger days or when he lived in the Chicago area. He will be totally missed and never forgotten ! My deepest sympathies to Branca, Eric and Mark and the rest of his family and friends. I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Stan... loved those fancy shoes and boots!

Let’s celebrate Stan’s wonderful life. He spread smiles to everyone that he came in contact with. I’ll never forget the joy he got helping the blind at Ski-for-Sight. His love and care was Boundaryless.

I worked with Stan for many years. He was smart, effective and hilarious every day! He loved his family, Branka he was so proud of your success, and Mark/Eric he was thrilled to be a dad and we saw a lot of pictures and heard all about you all the time! But I treasure those times. You had a good example to follow for how to be a good husband and father! I cannot imagine the void that you’ll feel but I know he would want tou to keep laughing during it all! It was my pleasure to have known him! FYI every time I see a cannoli pastry, I think of your Dad! My sincere prayers go to you all! Mt

Stan was my first boss when I moved to Chicago out of college. He was genuine, supportive and became a close friend. He was there for me during dark days and I've never forgotten that. He was a true, kind spirit who had a gift of being a friend to most anyone he met. His inner soul came through. I send my deepest condolences to Branka and the rest of the family. Losing someone who was such a presence will be felt for a long time, so hold onto your wonderful memories. He did indeed burst at the seams telling us about Branka and the boys. I know he'll be watching over you. My heart goes out to Branka, Mark and Eric. You were blessed to have had Stan as a husband and father. I feel blessed to have known him and am truly sorry to know he's no longer with us. He will never be forgotten. Sending virtual hugs to all, prayers for healing and strength to get through the sad times.

Branka, Eric and Mark: Your statements above were beautifully written and really captured the essence of Stas. He would be so pleased, and his wonderful legacy lives on through you and Felix! I've so enjoyed getting to know him and to be the lucky recipient of his kindness and "one of a kind" humor for almost a quarter of a century. Farewell Stas, but never forgotten!
