Adriano “Sonny” Bernardi, 68 of Elmwood Park, IL. Born July 19, 1952 in Sant’Anna Pelago, Italy to Nello and Carolina (Bartolai) Bernardi. Preceded in death by his brother Maurizio “Rick.” Beloved husband of 43 years to Maureen Ross Bernardi, wonderful father of Lia (Casey) Wendeln and Andrew (Caroline) Bernardi, and loving grandfather to Ella, Cameron, Adrianna, Carter and Zachary. Cherished brother-in-law of Tom (Nancy), Bob (Debby), Kathryn, and John (Lisa) Ross. Uncle to many, friend to all. After a valiant battle with lung cancer, God called him home, suddenly, on Monday August 24th.

A great electrician for 40 years, he truly loved his career and all of “his guys” and missed the camaraderie of daily life on the job during his 5 years of retirement. He loved the Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox, in tears when they won the World Series in 2005. Traveling home to Italy, he easily slipped back into life there, enjoying his distant family and introducing his wife, children and various friends to his beautiful country.

He was so very proud of his two children, the lights of his life, and thrilled with the arrival of all five of his grandchildren. His great spirituality and faith in God carried him through this very difficult time in his life. We know he is at peace and will always be with us in Spirit.

Maureen, Lia, Andrew, it was just a year ago that I was treated to Sonny and Maureen’s wonderful hospitality. Shared limoncellos admired his gorgeous tomatoes, talked baseball and football. And of course ate fabulous dinners. I am sorry I can’t be there in person to share your grief. Know that I am there in spirit. He will be missed. Love to all of you.

Maureen, Lia, and Andrew, Dionne and I are so sorry for your loss. Sonny was someone who always brought joy and laughter to any occasion. We have so many wonderful memories of us playing volleyball, basketball, and badminton; attending New Years parties, Halloween parties, or socializing at the Castillo, Morris, or Messerschmidt gatherings. Sonny, there are no words to express the sadness I feel knowing that we will not be able to verbally talk about the SOX, the Bears, Chicago, or Italy. God speed my friend....and thank you for having been a part of our lives... Tony
