Anthony “Tony” S D’Angelo, 53, of Glen Ellyn passed away June 21, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.
Born on July 30, 1962, in Chicago. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Schiller) D’Angelo and son of the late Ralph and Linda D’Angelo.
Tony grew up in Northlake and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School now ICCP in Elmhurst, Class of 1980. Involved in plastic manufacturing, he spent more than 20 years as a partner at CimTech Plastics Inc., leaving behind his business associate Chuck Pertile.
Tony will be remembered most as a loving husband, father of seven and grandfather of six. Left to cherish his memories is his wife Judi (Schiller), his children Anthony (Tony) D’Angelo, Christy D’Angelo, Gina D’Angelo, Samantha D’Angelo (Scott) Shippert, Dylan D’Angelo, Danny D’Angelo and Mike Flinn. Grandchildren Jocelyn, Olivia, Ryleigh, Lana, Mike and Julian. Sister Kathy (D’Angelo) (Craig) Smith, brother Mark (Holly) D’Angelo and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tony was also known as “Coach Tony” or just “Coach”. He was very involved in youth sports and often could be found on a baseball diamond or football field coaching any one of his seven children along with hundreds of others whom he took under his wings. Tony spent many years as a coach for teams in the Glendale Heights Spartans Football Association and for various youth baseball leagues. During the time in between coaching baseball and football he could be found on the softball field with the Glenside Raiders Travel Softball Organization, where he coached for eight years at various age levels. He went on to become the President of the Raiders Organization and grew it to include boy’s baseball where he continued to coach for five more years all while also finding time to volunteer as an assistant with the Driscoll Catholic High School Softball team. In total he volunteered nearly 20 years of time touching the hearts and minds of children. Tony also loved Chicago and its sports teams, especially the Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks.
Tony and his family will always be thankful for all the wonderful support that was given from family and friends. Especially friends Jim Gratzke, Sandro Baccelli, Bill Bennett and Herb Blum whom were always there for him, supporting him and loving him through all the ups and downs. In Tony’s words “Life is Good when you are blessed with such wonderful friends and family”.
In memory of Tony we ask you take a moment to hug your child, grandchild, mother, father, grandparents and friends. Take the time to help someone, make some time for what is important like playing catch with a kid. Time waits for no one. Make a DIFFERENCE because “Life Is Good!”
