It is with great and heavy sadness that we announce Berenice N. Bauer suddenly passed away after a
short illness on the morning of May 15, 2023.
Berenice and her first husband, Clifford A. Iffland, were high school sweethearts who met on a blind
date. Both were graduates of Proviso East HS. They married on April 2, 1960, settled in Broadview, IL
and had two children, Heather A. Iffland and Clifford N. Iffland. Clifford A. Iffland passed away in 1967.
In 1971, Berenice and her family moved to Glen Ellyn Countryside where she was a professional Mom.
Berenice and Anthony Bauer were married on May 15, 1992, until his passing on July 10, 2009.
Known as “Big B” to her children’s friends, she was a second mother to all of them.
Berenice made the holidays special for her family with all the little details she put into the meals and
decorating. She spent her time knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She enjoyed baking, ancestry, reading,
useless trivia, and spending time with her family.
Berenice was born in Chicago on August 20, 1941, to Alrick G. Nelson and Berenice E. (Brown) Nelson
Kamin. Berenice’s parents and only sibling, William A. Nelson predeceased her.
She is survived by her two children, grandchildren: Lana Abraham, Clifford U. Iffland, Luke Iffland, great-
grandchildren: Guy Pfaff, Gunnar Shaw and nephew, David W. Nelson.
