Irma Zayas, preceded in death by her loving husband Carlos Zayas, went to be with her Lord and Heavenly Father, on March 14, 2022. Irma was born on December 27, 1929 (age 92) in Brooklyn, New York to Agustina Cordero and Miguel Villanueva. She is survived by three loving children and their spouses, Carlos Jr. (Angie), Ivan (Liberty) and Edith Zayas. Grandmother of three grandchildren and their spouses, Nicholas (Marybel), Erick (Anna) and Alexander (Sarah). Great grandmother of Sophia, Isabel, Gianna and Olivia. Her loving stepchildren and their spouses Yolanda (Eugene) and Milagros (Danny); grandchildren and spouses Milba (Nelson), Carlos (Lily); great grandchildren Alexis, Adrian, Elijah and Ariel, and great-great grandchildren, Amarla and Lylah Soulene.

Although Irma was born in New York she was raised in the small town of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. At the age of twenty-one she moved back to New York for a year then moved to Chicago to live with her sister. In Chicago she met the love of her life, Carlos Zayas, a marriage that lasted 65 years. She worked at Hart Schaffner and Marx in data entry. She retired at the age of 63 and continued living in the city of Chicago until her final days. Irma loved family celebrations, outings and socializing. She cared deeply for her brothers and sisters. Her childhood memories were many and stories brought us much joy. She will be sorely missed.
