Jim and I visited the St. Bonaventure University Cemetery where poet Robert Lax, a lifelong friend of Thomas Merton's, is buried. This was the last day of the conference as we were heading home.

Dear Bannon Family, Jim was a supporter of the Chicago Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society from its earliest days. In recent years, he took up the task of taking photos at our meetings and at two ITMS conferences (St. Bonaventure & Santa Clara). I had the great privilege of getting to know him better over these last six years. Rarely have a met such a dedicated and caring man. He was somebody I could always count on and I will miss him greatly. In his humility, while he took hundreds of photos, there are few with himself, as he preferred to stay in the background, quietly and efficiently getting things done. Our Chapter won't be the same without him. I know this has been a difficult time for the family. You are in our prayers as we also remember Jim with much love and pray for the repose of his soul. May he rest in peace.

Dear Linda, and the whole Bannon clan, I cannot be present with you during this sad time for you and your family because I am in Peru. But know that I carry you all in my heart and in my prayers. Jim was a special friend to me even though I seldom had a chance to visit. I always admired his great dedication for many years to the youth in the Athletic Association and his desire to give a helping hand when needed. He was a Gift and his presence will be missed. Sending my Love and Prayers to you all.
