It is with a truly heavy heart, that I am writing that after a 2 year battle with leukemia, the subsequent stem-cell replacement therapy, chemo treatments, and resulting destruction of his immune system, that Rick Esberner, born 06/21/1955, died on 03/14/2018 at the age of 62, from cardiac arrest while being hospitalized from a viral infection.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Cheryl, daughters Erica & Tanya (Chris Bradley), and adopted son Rich Gilland, as well as his father Roy Ritner, brothers Bernie (Lucy Wilson-Diefenthaler) and Kurt Ritner, brother and sister in laws Roy & Michelle Vanderhorst. He was a loving uncle to his nieces Shauna & Shannon Vanderhorst and newphews Roy, Alex, & Damien Ritner and Christopher & Jacob Vanderhorst and a doting grandpa to Emma Bradley.
He was met in heaven by his dear mother, Joan.
Rick was also a very loving father to many pets over the years, most recently to his dogs Suzie, Bettie, & Sprite and cats Rocky and Bianca.
Rick enjoyed creating works of art, along with his hobbies of fishing in both summer and winter, woodworking, viewing old movies, collecting figurative skulls, and hosting a good barbecue. He was a handyman husband always with a honey-do-list
A celebration of Rick’s life is planned for Saturday, March 24, from 12-4 pm, at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake Street Roselle IL.
If you’re a spiritual person, please say a prayer to your God or deity for his family.
