Robert Gryncewicz was my good friend and somehow along life's journey, our roads separated. Each continued to pursue the future in individual ways and directions, and so many years apart. When I was told of my friend's passing, those missing years just vanished and I was deeply saddened. Leanne, although I only know you through conversations with my daughter Kerry, I reflect on those conversations and understand that my friend must be proud, as well as, grateful. Leanne, I am deeply saddened by the loss and I express my sincere sympathy to you and your family.

Robert Gryncewicz was my uncle. Though I have not seen him in many years I have fond memories of him. Especially when I was a child. I spent many spring and summer breaks staying with him, my aunt and 2 cousins. My aunt would make pizza when he came home after working the 3pm-11pm shift. It was such a treat to stay up late and eat it. He struck such a presence in his uniform and I was always so impressed. That is how I remember him most. Thank you for your service Uncle Bob and may you rest in piece

Robert Gryncewicz was my good friend for over 50 years; since the fifth grade, when I started at Resurrection School in Chicago. He was a larger than life character who our classmates called “Dino.” We stayed close friends, even though we lived far apart most of those years. I knew his family well, and as a young man, spent a lot of time with them, often playing Canasta with his mother and grandmother well into the night. Those games were so much fun! Lots of laughs! When he returned from the Army, I persuaded him to consider law enforcement as a career, even went so far as to take the test for the Oak Park Police with him. We were hired on the same day! He was my best man. Within a year, I made the move to California. But Bob was still a big part of my life. He and another friend drove my wife’s car out from Chicago for us. He stayed with us for several days, among other things, traveling with us to Palm Springs to ride the Arial Tramway! Over the years, we had dinner every time I visited Chicago and spoke on the phone regularly. When I learned of his recent hospitalization, I came out and spent time with him; so glad I did! We shared a lot of memories, and while he wasn’t 100%, I got him to laugh and enjoy the chocolate covered cherries I brought him. I’m going to miss him a lot. Rest in peace my friend!
