Stanley Edward Poplonski, 73, of Bloomingdale, Illinois passed away in his home on November 29th, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Branka Poplonski; devoted father of Mark and Eric Poplonski; loving son of the late Chester and Wanda Poplonski; dear brother of Chet Poplonski and the late Christine (Krysia) Self; proud grandfather of Felix Poplonski and dearu uncle of Jennifer Eaves.
Stan was born in Leon, Mexico to two proud Polish WWII refugees, immigrating to the United States at a young age with his parents and younger sister Krysia. They settled in Chicago and completed the family with the addition of his younger brother Chet, who became his lifelong best friend. Stan honorably served in the US Army, stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam War where he met his future wife. He ended up taking his mother’s advice literally when she said, “bring me home a souvenir” and came back married to Branka Ucakar Poplonski, with whom he spent the next 48 wonderful years. Together, they raised two wonderful twin boys, Mark and Eric Poplonski. He retired early (or so he thought) until his loving wife put him to work for her and pushed him to make some new friends. For the past 20 years, Stan dedicated his life to volunteer work for the local community. His constant acts of selflessness and kindness became commonplace to anyone who met him. Outside of his family, becoming a Cake Ball Connoisseur and joining the Lions Club became his life’s work. His dedication to the organization became second to none. Stan and Branka went dancing every weekend (often to the tunes of Rick Lindy), and their passion and love for one another was just as strong as the first time they laid eyes on each other. He was blessed one more time with the birth of his first grandchild, Felix Stanley Poplonski, who he loved adoringly. Stan was a man who had many talents, a “larger than life” personality and a sense of humor that would leave even the most devout silent monks laughing in stitches. He will be missed by countless people, but he will never be forgotten.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 11th from 3pm-9pm at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel at 450 W Lake Street, Roselle, IL 60172. The funeral mass will take place on Saturday, December 12th at 9:30am at Saint Isidore Parish officiated by Father Jim Murphy. If you wish to join virtually, the mass will be live streamed at https://vimeo.com/event/489608. The family is having a private cremation ceremony to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the Bloomingdale Lions Club or Prostate Cancer Research. To donate to Prostate Cancer Research go to http://support.zerocancer.org.
