Venus T. Mapula passed away on Monday, May 4 th. And on Sunday, is the first Mother’s Day that she is gone…

Venus was born the small town of Kolambugan, Lanao Del Norte in the Philippines to Ciony and Genaro Tomines. She came from a big family with 3 brothers and 7 sisters. She worked at the Civil Service in Manila and married Ismael Mapula. From this union came 3 children: Allan, Tess and Chel. She moved to Chicago in 1996, worked and eventually retired.

Venus was an avid reader and loved watching her telenovelas; often discussing the series with her sisters. She loved to read, laugh and to entertain family and friends. She was always one to remember birthdays and celebrate holidays. She was full of life and loved spending time with her family and friends. Always putting the needs of her family and friends above hers is what made her an amazing human being!

Venus was a loving sister, mom and grandma. Grandchildren Jedrick, Ana, Jaron, Ethan, Aksel and Ariana will miss her love and her cooking. She shared an amazing bond with her youngest granddaughter Ariana, who she helped care for since birth. Grandma was a constant figure in her life, her partner-in-crime and will miss making up stories with her.

She was one woman, but her absence will leave a gaping hole in our hearts.

We will always miss and love you, Mama. You left us with beautiful memories and love in our hearts, and that will guide us as we navigate life without you by our side. Thank you, Mama.

Venus is preceded in death by her parents, brother Conrado, sisters Luzviminda, Connie, and Aurora. She is survived by her loving husband Ismael, brothers Wilfredo and Rodolfo, and sisters Princess, Fermina, Emma and Edna. As well as daughter-in-law Josephine and son-in-law Eduardo.
