Carol Ann “Chickie” Nielsen (nee Stella), daughter of Sebastian Stella & Caroline (Fillicaro). Age 79, Carole passed away peacefully on Wednesday Feb. 1, 2023; beloved wife of the late Brice “Butch” Nielsen; loving mother of Mark Nielsen, Laura Nielsen Mills, and Karen Nielsen Brennan (Chris); loving sister to Gloria Cossa (Tony) and Roberta Cencig (John); honored and devoted grandma of Bill (Angela) and Jessica Mills, Cole and Griffin Brennan, and Graham Nielsen; kind sister-in-law to Kathy Pullia (Bob) and Mary Oleson (Wayne); dear aunt to nieces and nephews Tom, Cathy [Burys] and Dan Cossa, Gina [Espinel], Nick, Raymond, Dorothy, Vince and the late Bobby Pullia, Kathy [Marshall], Roy and the late Jenny Oleson.

Carol also built goodwill and had immense warmth for dozens of cousins and relatives, friends far and wide, decades of hair-styling clients, and pets…such love and affection, going in all directions!
A lifelong Chicagoan, she loved to travel, root for all things Chicago, to decorate her world (and dance around in it), to cook and show hospitality, and to read, view, hear and tell the absolute BEST stories. She had a soft touch, deep but flexible faith and a generous heart, even in the hardest of times. She’s the rock so much good was built upon.

Chickie was a kind and loving person to all who knew her. We grew up together and were close as adults. We got together for lunches and played cards. I will truly miss her.

Being one of the young ones of the family (Paula a few years younger) I am posting a fond memory. No disrespect intended just my most vivid memory. I can still see the apartment you lived in (cannot remember the name of the street, but had to be buzzed in) All 3 sisters getting ready to go out and only 1 bathroom. I can still hear Gorgie ponding on the bathroom yelling Chickie, open the door. When the door finally slowly opened there was Chickie with her head hanging out of an opened bathroom window, waving her hand in front of her face trying to get rid of any cigarette smoke left behind. It was funny as all heck. My memory I am sharing. Chickie you are missed and loved. Love all 3 Stella girls, Gorgie, Chickie, and cousin Booba.
