Georgia Ann Leoni Buvak, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022, surrounded by the love of her two daughters, sister and niece. Georgia was born in Melrose Park, on July 25, 1942, to Lena Petruzzi and George A. Leoni. Georgia was mother to Carlene (Greifelt) and Michalene (Tjeerdema). She raised her children with an abundance of Italian cooking, sprinkled with love and a quick wit. She was a best ever mother-in-law to Jim Tjeerdema and Ken Greifelt. Georgia was most proud of being NANA to Jona and Jimmy Tjeerdema, and Jake and Logan Greifelt. She spoiled and doted on them with love and affection. Georgia was the loving older sister to Donna Leoni Peluso. She was a fun aunt to Roberta Heintz, George Peluso and Anthony Peluso. Georgia was Great Aunt and Christmas cookie-making instructor to the Heintz brothers: Bowie, Blaise and Nico. Georgia was a fond dog Nana to Zuzu and dog Auntie to Teddy. Georgia worked at her family’s restaurant, Leoni’s, located in Melrose Park, where she fed and nourished many friends for many years. Georgia will be fondly remembered as aunt, cousin and friend to many. Services will be held at the Queen of Heaven Chapel, Hillside on Saturday, December 2 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Association or National Kidney Foundation can be made in Georgia’s name.

Beautiful cousin Georgia Ann…you were a sweet cousin with a great sense of humor. We minded our manners around Grandma Agatha Leoni, but were rowdy and silly amongst ourselves! I am so sad you are gone, yet grateful we shared a rich and most colorful childhood.Your beauty and spirit travel on in your daughters and grandchildren. You are forever loved.

Deeply sorry to hear the passing of Georgian. My heart goes out to her sister, daughters, son in laws and grandchildren. I will remember as a beautiful young bride which may have been the first wedding I ever went to. See everyone on Saturday. -Jim Petruzzi
