Ann Louise Mapes (Lessing) passed away on February 24, 2026. Born October 2,1940, in Chicago, to the late Marie and Wendell (nee Taylor) Lessing. Beloved wife of late Donald, loving mother Sheryl (Jeff) Johnson, Don Mapes Jr (Kori), Sue (Peter) Pacione, Dave (Erin) Mapes; proud grandparent to Shelby, Jake, Elizabeth, Matthew, Nathan, Jack, and Emma, sister to late Kenneth Lessing (Mary Ann), loving aunt to Connie Leopold and Mary Beth Zumkeller. Ann was born in Chicago, IL, but grew up in Hinsdale, IL where she was surrounded by music. As a pianist she decided to attend Illinois Wesleyan University and finished in 1962 where she pursued a teaching position for elementary school. Soon after she met the late Donald Mapes and married. Together they built a successful real estate business. Ann loved making people smile and always had a sense of humor. She loved reading books, playing solitaire, listening to music, Hallmark channel, and learning new words to throw us all off since we didn’t know the meaning. She will be extremely missed and now she will watch us all from heaven above. So be good. Thank you for all the wonderful memories! We love you! And rest in peace mom.
In memory of Ann please be kind and helpful to others. Take time to enjoy life whether reading a book, playing games on your phone, or spending time with friends and family. Whatever gives you a sense of harmony.
There will be a Celebration of Life on July 25 th 2026 from 12-3
