Annette T. (Meziere) Smith, 84, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 4 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Natchitoches, La., to Robert Earl and Marie (Metoyer) Meziere. Annette was a homemaker before waitressing for many years, most recently at Ki’s Restaurant in Glendale Heights. Raised primarily in Chicago, she ventured to the suburbs for the first time in 1963, and lived in Glen Ellyn for 25-plus years before moving to West Chicago, and for the last seven years, in St. Charles. She was married to Jerry for 58 years before his death in 2016. They loved traveling near and far, to visit relatives in Wisconsin, on cruises to the Bahamas and Italy, and spending time on the beach in Huatulco, Mexico. For someone who was fond of saying she “Grew up on the Cane River in Louisiana,” Annette (unlike her husband and kids) wasn’t much for the pool because, of course, she’d have to get her hair wet. The lifelong Cubs and Blackhawks fan was an excellent cook, a hard worker (sometimes working on Mother’s Day) and always easily made friends and made people feel comfortable. She loved playing cards with her siblings and friends. She was active in the Catholic Church, and enjoyed her time as a Eucharistic minister. Annette was preceded in death by her husband; sister Dorothy; and her parents. She is survived by her children, Michael (Sandra), Steven (Diane), Nancy (Mark) Gronau, and Brian (Michelle); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters and four brothers; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends. There is a celebration Mass at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Matthew Church, 1555 Glen Ellyn Road, Glendale Heights. A visitation will be begin at 8:30 a.m. Following Mass, a brunch will be held at Ki’s, 705 North Ave. Arrangements by Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St., Roselle.
