Antonio Angelo Spizzirri, Sr. Beloved husband of Annamaria (nee Barbato). Devoted father of Antonietta (Scott) Dankel, Pietro (Marianna) Spizzirri, Antonio A. (Kristen) Spizzirri Jr. Loving son of the late Pietro and Antonietta Spizzirri. Dear brother of Gilda (Alberto), Pina (Joe) and the late Maria (Alex), Rosaria (Giacomo), Emanuele (Maria) and Giovanni (Maria). Adored Nonno of Annamaria, Dylan, Samuel, Lilianna, Sofia, Antonio A. III, Giovanni and Daniel. Dear son-in-law of the late Michelangelo and Irene Barbato. Fond brother-in-law of Ettore (Patricia) Barbato, and Josephine (late James) Morris. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Antonio was born in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, and immigrated to Chicago in 1966 in search of a better life. Through hard work and determination, he became a respected tailor, dedicating more than 40 years to his craft with pride and remarkable skill.
In Chicago, he met Annamaria Barbato, fell in love, and married her in 1973. Together they raised their three children in Addison, always putting family first. Antonio loved tending his garden, talking sports and politics, and sharing stories of the old country.
He also kept his traditions alive in meaningful ways — making homemade wine, preparing soppressata and sausage, and gathering family together around those moments. For him, these weren’t just customs; they were expressions of love and heritage.
Above all, he cherished passing his values on to his children and especially his eight grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. His legacy lives on in the family he built, the traditions he preserved, and the love he gave so generously.
