Arnold Trogi, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 9, 2025, in Palatine, Illinois, surrounded by the family that adored him. Born on September 13, 1940, in Piandelagotti, Modena, Italy, Arnold's journey began at the young age of 16 when he emigrated to the United States, embracing a new language and culture with unwavering determination and resilience. His proudest accomplishment was raising a family while building a life filled with love and laughter.
Arnold's career was a testament to his multifaceted talents and indomitable spirit. He began with a landscape business before owning the beloved La Lira Restaurant, and eventually established his own General Contractor business. No matter the endeavor, Arnold approached every project with a kind heart and a willingness to lend a helping hand, earning him the admiration and gratitude of those around him.
Arnold's personality was a beautiful blend of kindness and humor. Friends and family cherished the way he could light up a room with his wit while simultaneously being the rock that everyone could rely on. He was a master craftsman, with the ability to build or repair just about anything, and his generosity extended to all who crossed his path. He found joy in making picture frames from dried cactus, playing cards with friends and family—often employing his own 'Arizona rules'—and sharing delicious meals with loved ones.
He spent countless cherished moments creating unforgettable memories with his family. From joyful trips to Disney World, exhilarating ski adventures, and trips to Hawaii with Fran to serene days exploring Yellowstone and springtime escapades in Arizona. Arnold's love for his family knew no bounds. He took immense delight in making tortellacci from scratch with his daughter Lisa on memorable Christmases and treasured the time spent with his granddaughter on quad and UTV rides through the desert in Arizona. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was his main source of joy.
Arnold got pure delight from spending time with his two granddaughters—Tana and Ashley—and, three great-grandkids—Liam, Charlotte, and Autumn—and they brightly illuminated his life to the very end. Arnold and the love of his life, Fran Tummillo, were the epitome of soul mates. Their union brought joy not only to them but also to their extended family. He adored all of Fran’s children and spouses and honored them as his own. For Arnold, Fran’s grandchildren were his grandchildren, and the laughter shared in those moments left a lasting imprint on their lives.
He is survived by his beloved, Fran; his sister Maria Lida (Luigi) Cardone; his daughters Lisa (Darren) Hanson and Kellye (Matt) Ruona; his granddaughters Tana (Jon) Orban and Ashley Hanson; and his great-grandchildren, Liam, Charlotte, and Autumn, who were constant sources of happiness in his life. In addition, he leaves behind his beloved extended family, Michael & Amanda Tummillo; Mark & Marcella Tummillo; Melanie & Rob Vanni; Meredith & Tony Wash; Gianna Tummillo; Nick Tummillo; Frankie Tummillo; Alex Tummillo; Bobby Vanni; and Rocco Vanni who meant the world to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosa and Ernesto Trogi, and his siblings Guiseppina, Domenico, and Eliseo Trogi.
Family and friends of Arnold will gather to celebrate his life on December 19, 2025, visitation at 9:30am, mass at 10:30am, at the Holy Family Catholic Parish , 2515 Palatine Rd, Inverness, IL. His legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
