Bonnie Jean Cox

Bonnie Jean Cox, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, at the age of 84. Born on April 28, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, Bonnie was a beacon of kindness and generosity whose life was a testament to the art of giving and caring for others.

Bonnie's spirit was remarkable, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was known for her warm smile and contagious laughter, and she had an exceptional ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished. A woman of great humor, she filled rooms with joy and light, never holding a grudge, and always finding ways to uplift those around her.

Her passion for family shone brightly. Bonnie adored her children and grandchildren, often surpassing the role of a doting grandma. She demonstrated her love through simple yet profound gestures, always saying “yes” to a cup of coffee and a sweet treat shared with family. Her heart overflowed with joy during late-night adventures, including midnight trips to JJ Peppers for arcade games with her grandkids, or spending summer days beside the water, swimming together and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Bonnie was also an avid player of bingo and card games, and she found delight in watching game shows and the ever-entertaining Judge Judy. She cherished her shopping excursions, garage sales, and family dinners, always eager to be with her loved ones and share in life's little pleasures. Her adventurous spirit took her on many cruises, where she created lasting memories, as well as her beloved moments capturing family photographs that she treasured deeply.

Throughout her life, Bonnie excelled at caring for her loved ones; she often worried about her kids and grandkids, staying awake at night to make sure everyone was okay. It was not just her immediate family she nurtured, but everyone who had the good fortune to know her received her kindness and warmth. She will always be remembered as the best mom, grandma, and sister—a sweet soul who embodied love and compassion.

Bonnie is survived by her loving children: Bonnie Caper (daughter) and her husband James; Danny Cox (son) and his wife Terri; and Dennis Cox (son) with his wife Patty. She was proud of her 19 grandchildren: Kaitlyn Caper, Breanna Caper, Ruchelle Hernandez, Nicole Guidry, Mitchell Cox, Cameron Cox, Dennis Cox, Gregory Cox, Matthew Cox, and Andrea Sanchez, along with many cherished great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She leaves behind her devoted sisters, Beverly Stoffel, Linda Melody, and Lenore Day, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Bonnie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Daniel Cox, her parents Joseph Peterman and Helen Cowhey, her sister Diane Schaeffer, and her brother Larry Peterman.
