Carol J. Kotlarczyk (nee Shallcross) died on August 18, 2022. While dedicating herself to her family she had a successful career as a writer and senior editor in educational publishing at National Geographic, McGraw-Hill, and other publishing houses, features writer for the Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald, and other periodicals. After graduating from the University of Illinois, Carol raised her three sons while earning her Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University and began her journalistic and publishing career. Carol was the cherished wife of Thomas, loving mother of Adam (Laura), Douglas (Emanuela), and Michael (Katherine). She was the devoted grandmother of Owen, Andrew, Avery, Octavia, Sam, and Charlie. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Carol is survived by her brother Richard and sister Claudia (Levey). She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret (Cushman) Shallcross. Visitation Monday Aug. 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday Aug. 23 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St., Roselle. Interment Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD.
