Crisostomo “Tom” L. Oliveros (January 27, 1935-March 14, 2026)
Crisostomo, known affectionately as Tom, was a man whose life spanned continents and touched countless hearts. Born in Manila, Philippines, Tom eventually made a home in the Chicagoland area, where he spent over half his life surrounded by his family. A proud graduate of Feati University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Tom’s career was as adventurous as it was impactful. From designing dams in Luzon to mitigate flooding, to working with Air America in Vietnam for over a decade, and building vital infrastructure in Iraq and Iran, Tom’s work left a lasting mark on the world. In the late 70s, he joined his wife and children in Chicago, eventually retiring after a dedicated career overseeing highway improvements for Cook County in Chicago. Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was a man of deep kindness and vibrant spirit. He was the devoted husband of the late Aurelia (Rely) Oliveros; a dedicated father to Jeff (Ching) Oliveros and Jean (Kent)Swaine; and a proud grandfather to Stephanie, Rachel, Joshua, and Kaley. He was a dear brother to Margie, Tessie, Lita, and Ato, and was predeceased by Letty, Jun, Luding, Roger, and Rosie. Tom filled his life—and the lives of others—with music. Whether he was singing or playing the piano and guitar, he found joy in the simplest pleasures. He loved the quiet of a fishing trip, the strategy of mahjong, and the excitement of the casino with his family. Known for his generosity and constant encouragement, Tom’s legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
