In Loving Memory of Darlene Lynn Massi; August 19, 1946 – December 12, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Lynn Massi, 78, of Addison, Illinois, on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Darlene passed peacefully, surrounded by her beloved daughter and husband. A wake will be held in her honor on Tuesday, December 17, at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. Roselle, from 4-9 PM. A Celebration of Life Mass will take place at St. Philip the Apostle Church on Wednesday, December 18 at 10:30 am, followed by entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Born in Chicago on August 19, 1946, to Anton and Viola (Buhl) Drzka, Darlene embraced life with a vibrant spirit and boundless energy. While she held various roles early on, her true joy came as a devoted wife, mother, and later, grandmother. She married Frank Massi on September 16, 1967, a partnership filled with love, laughter, and enduring friendships. Darlene found fulfillment in her career as a sales associate at Carson Pirie Scott, where she worked for 22 years before retiring. Beyond work, she actively participated in her community, most notably as a cherished member of the Itasca Country Club, where she golfed and contributed her talents to her league. Darlene’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Renee Zomaya, and her adored granddaughter, Anna Zomaya (daughter of Renee and Andy Zomaya), with whom she shared countless cherished moments. From school plays to dance recitals, Anna was the light of Darlene’s life, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer her on. Preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Drzka (March 6, 2024), Darlene is survived by her extended family, including her niece and nephew, Sheldon Drzka (Yuri Drzka) and Hillary Jorgensen (Steve Jorgensen), as well as her great-nieces and nephews: Brianne Henry, Kyle Drzka, Neal Drzka, and Leah Drzka. An exceptional baker, Darlene delighted all with her incredible cakes and cookies, lovingly crafted for every occasion. Her warm smile and trays of treats became as legendary as the heartfelt connections she formed with friends and family. A true social butterfly, Darlene lit up every room she entered, bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. Darlene will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, generous heart, and the countless memories she created with those she loved. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all who knew her. She was truly special.
May her memory be a blessing. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to: The Anti Cruelty Society, www.anticruelty.org ; or St. Philip the Apostle Parish in Addison, IL or St. Francis High School in Wheaton, IL
