Donald (Don) Edward Wiercinski, age 68, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 2, 2025, after a brief but brave battle with cancer.
Born on August 27, 1957, Don was the youngest of five siblings who grew up in Niles, Illinois, in the loving home of the late Edward and Martha (nee Ball) Wiercinski. Even as adults, Don never let his brother and sisters forget that he was the baby of the family. Don graduated from Maine East High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Debbie. What followed was long, successful career as a purchasing specialist and Don enjoying life as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Don was a selfless person who cherished and valued family above anything.
Don was a dedicated father to his three boys, serving as their Cub Scout Den Leader, and taking them on many family road trips where he “forgot” to pull over at the next rest stop. When Don became a grandpa of three, he could be found at every school event or on the floor, building elaborate Lego displays with them. In addition, many hours were spent playing cards with his wife and sisters – with spades, Liverpool rummy, and thirty-one among some of his favorites.
His family will remember him as someone you could always count on, whether it meant helping with a DIY project or picking up his grandchildren from school. In the summer, when he was not tending to his lawn or garden, he could be found relaxing with a beer in the pool. Don also never missed an opportunity to pull a small prank. Whether it was hiding the last puzzle piece from his wife or mom, or moving his daughter-in-law’s decorations around the house, Don’s playful personality was always on display. He will be missed amongst his family for his specialty dish - potato pancakes - and for his signature word “terrific.”
Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Debra (nee Bergantino), and his three sons: Daniel (Shannon), Douglas, and Andrew. He was a proud grandpa to Landon, Olivia, and Lincoln, whom he saw nearly every day. He was the loving brother of Rosalie (late Charles) Haubner, the late Charles (Kathleen) Wiercinski, Donna (Mark) Sullivan, Sandra Wiercinski. Don was a dear brother-in-law to Joanna (Kevin) Ward and John (Anne) Bergantino. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Visitation services in honor of Don will be held on December 12, 2025, from 3:00pm to 9:00pm at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, located at 450 W. Lake St, Roselle, IL 60172. The funeral service will be held on December 13, 2025 at 11:30am at St. Hubert Church, located at 729 Grand Canyon St, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169. Burial will be private.
