Donna was born May,14,1936 to Viola Becker Voelz and Raymond Voelz at Dr. Byer’s Hospital near Lords Park, Elgin. The hospital straddled the border of Kane and Cook County, she was born on the Cook County side of the hospital. After the death of her father in 1938, she and her mother moved from West Chicago to Roselle. In 1942 Donna began attending Trinity Lutheran School. She was confirmed and graduated 8th grade from Trinity in 1950.She graduated from Glenbard Township High School in 1954. The day after graduation from high school Donna began working as a secretary for The Loyal Protective Life Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois until 1964. July 1, 1964 she began working for Allis-Chalmers as a secretary. The company became Siemens-Allis, and eventually Siemens Energy. She held various positions as a secretary, administrative, customer service, technical correspondent, and retired as executive secretary in 2001. Donna earned her Certified Professional Secretary certification in 1970. She was a member of The Professional Secretary’s Association for 40 years and held several positions, including President. Donna was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle. She belonged to the Walther League, sang in the choir for over 50 years, taught Sunday School, and volunteered in many different areas. Donna also volunteered as a mentor to students in elementary school ,tutored students at College of DuPage who were studying to earn their Ged certification, knit hats for donation, and was a member of Phil’s Friends writing letters to cancer patients. Donna was a prolific letter writer. She corresponded to servicemen overseas, had pen pals for years, and blessed her family and friends with letters and holiday cards regularly. She kept detailed and extensive records of her recipients in order no one was forgotten or missed. Her handwriting was absolutely beautiful, and those letters she wrote will be missed by many. Donna loved to travel, watch the Chicago Cubs, play card games, and talk to her friends and relatives. She always had a smile, positive attitude, a quick wit and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed. Donna wished to be cremated at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel and will be laid to rest next to her parents at Glen Oaks Cemetery in West Chicago. A service will be held at a future date in the chapel at The Oaks in Bartlett, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the following:
