Edward “Eddie,” “Edziu,” “Ed” Krawczyk, 81, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and niece. He was born on October 19, 1944, in Nazi-occupied Germany, to Jozef and Marianna (Włodarska) Krawczyk.
Edward held deep pride and gratitude for the country that welcomed him and gave him opportunities he once only dreamed of. Through determination and tireless work, he built a life that far exceeded those dreams. He was actively involved in his community, local politics, and Polish cultural organizations. A passionate supporter of the Republican Party, he dedicated his time to volunteering, walking neighborhoods for local candidates, serving as an election judge, and proudly holding the role of president of United Polonia. He believed in showing up, getting involved, and doing his part.
Above all, Edward’s greatest pride and joy was his family. At the center of that love was his remarkable relationship with his wife, Theresa—his partner, best friend, and constant companion for 58 years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion, shared purpose, and unwavering support, doing everything side by side and always for one another. For 56 years as a father, he guided, supported, protected, and loved deeply, always leading by example. Even after the heartbreaking loss of his son in 2005, Edward’s light did not fade. He carried forward with remarkable strength, faith, and resilience, instilling those same values in his family.
Edward’s life was defined by boundless energy, adventure, unwavering dedication, generosity, and a deep love for his family, friends, community, Polish heritage, and adopted country. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, determination, humor, and work ethic, as well as the lasting impact he made on so many lives.
He lived life so fully that his story could fill a book—a journey of coming to America and truly living the dream. He loved being with people, sharing his story, and encouraging others to pursue their own potential. With kind words and a helping hand, he never turned anyone away. Generous in both spirit and heart, he had a gift for captivating a room—whether through conversation or on the dance floor. Even in his final days, he found joy in music, especially polka. Whether gardening, golfing or fishing, he embraced every pursuit with passion, always striving to learn, grow, and be his very best.
Edward was preceded in death by; his son, Michael Krawczyk; parents, Jozef and Marianna Krawczyk; his mother-in-law, Julia Wojakowska; his brothers-in-law, Andy Sulikowski and Craig Weldon; and his nephews, Edward D. Krawczyk and George Gdovin Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife and partner, Theresa; his daughter Ella and her husband, Jon, and their children, Jonathan, Maddie, Daniel, and Grace; his daughter Camille and her husband, Rob, and their children, Logan and Lexi; and his sister, Lucy.
Rest in peace, Edziu. Your memory will forever live in the hearts of those you touched, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you inspired.
