Ernest “Ernie” William Cameron;   September 16,1920-November 4, 2025

Ernest William Cameron, lovingly known as Ernie, passed away peacefully on November 4, at the remarkable age of 105. A cherished brother, devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. Ernie leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy.

Born on September 16,1920, in Chicago IL. Ernie was the first son born after six daughters, completing a close knit family of nine children raised on Chicago's North Side, near Addison and Milwaukee. He graduated high school in 1938 and began his career as a sales representative, but his life's path took a new direction with the onset of World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with honor as a diesel engineer aboard the sub chaser USS PC-1357, based in South Carolina.

Prior to enlisting Ernie met the love of his life Emily (Lee) J. Antonucci. The two married in 1944 and shared a devoted 63 years together until Lee's passing in 2008. After the war, Ernie returned to his sales career and the couple settled in Elmwood Park, where they bought a home Ernie lovingly maintained until the age of 99.

Ernie and Lee welcomed their son, Ernest William Jr., who followed in his father's footsteps of love and family. Ernie married Darlene (Ranzulla), and together they raised five daughters, AnnMarie(Leo) Gubenko, Gina (Deo) Cerrone, Nicole (James) Carlos, LeeAnna (Santo) Anzaldi, and Christina (Rick) Amelio. Ernie was a treasured great grandfather to a growing and beloved family including, Natalie (Ian) Rowland(nee Cerrone), Nico Gubenko, Caroline Cerrone, Tommy Gubenko, Isabella (Belle) Gubenko, Gino Cerrone, Grace Cerrone, Gabriella Cerrone, Francesco (Frankie) Anzaldi, Gia Gubenko, Vinnie Amelio, Marco Anzaldi and Joey Amelio.

A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Ernie proudly held season tickets for 42 years. Attending games and tailgating with his son was one of his greatest joys, and no matter the weather or the team's record, he embodied the heart and spirit of true fandom.

An avid golfer, Ernie enjoyed the game well into his late nineties, playing twice weekly into the age of 98. His sharp wit, warm demeanor, and love of the game made him a favorite on the golf course and everywhere he went.

A proud veteran, loyal friend, and loving patriarch, Ernie touched countless lives with his kindness, wisdom, and generosity of spirit. He often spoke with gratitude for the wonderful life he lived and looked forward to reuniting with his beloved wife Lee in eternity.
