Florian Roman
June 20, 1935 – May 10, 2026
Florian Roman, 90, passed away peacefully on May 10. Florian was born to Andrew and Louise Roman on June 20, 1935, the youngest of 11 children. Florian is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Trudy) Roman, children Deborah (Stu) Brandel, Ron (Jennifer) Roman, and Diane Roman, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Hannah, Nathan, and Evan Brandel and Roman and Madeline Treuthart.
Florian will be remembered for his devotion to his family, the strength of his faith, and the depth of his friendships.
He married the love of his life, Gertrude (Trudy) Sokolowski, at age 22, and they were blessed with 68 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Deborah, Ronald, and Diane. Throughout his life, his children were always a top priority. He was an involved Dad from their infancy on. He was committed to enabling and attending their chosen activities, whether academic, sporting, or musical. He also saw to it that his children received college educations. Throughout their lives, he was always there for them in their times of greatest need. He was equally devoted to his 5 grandchildren.
Florian was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Walter parish in Roselle, Illinois, where he also served as an usher for many years. He volunteered at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, where he was awarded the Spirit of Excellence Award.
Florian’s friends were the third pillar of his life. He was a member of the Windsors Social Athletic Club for over 70 years. The Windsors sponsored many socials, family holiday parties, and polka dances. He also enjoyed golfing and a good poker game with his Windsor friends. Florian was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and celebrated their World Series victory in 2016 with joy.
Florian served in the Army from 1954-1956 and was a dedicated employee of Motorola for 44 years.
