When Frank was in 8th Grade he worked at the YMCA serving meals before and after school. After that he held many different jobs from stocking shelves at a local grocery store to being a
machinist in the Steel Mills. He was a pitcher on a minor league baseball team (the Wausau
Lumberjacks) and, while playing in New York, he found out he had been drafted into the Army,
and spent the next 2 years in Korea. After returning from the war, Frank was at a social at the neighborhood YMCA where he met
the love of his life, Veronica (“Ronnie”). They were married in 1956, the same year he started
working for Illinois Bell (and related Bell companies) until he retired. He was a Union Electrician
for 66 years. Frank was a man of faith, loved gardening, tinkering, fixing anything and everything mechanical,
and entering sweepstakes (some of which he actually won). He loved to travel and was able to
visit many US states, Canada, the Bahamas, England and Ireland. He was an avid sports fan –
loved playing, teaching and watching baseball (huge White Sox fan, and even bigger fan of
watching his grandkids play any and all sports). Most of all he just loved to be with his family – listening to and telling stories and offering
advice, when asked. Frank has been a great inspiration to everyone he has encountered. Frank
had a huge heart and always treated everyone with kindness and compassion. He will be
missed but never forgotten. Frank is survived by his wife of 66 years, Veronica “Ronnie” nee Galvin, his three children: Ann
(John) Merritello, Lynn (Jack) Jasinowski, John (Lea) Pastewski; eight grandchildren: Joann
(Daniel) Freeman, John (Michelle) Merritello, James (“Jimmy”) (Stefani) Merritello, Jamie & Jay
Jasinowski, Andrew, Aaron & Adam Pastewski; and four great-grandchildren: Johnny and Julia
Merritello and Anthony and Gianna Freeman..
