Gordon Manary 1923-2026
Gordon passed the morning of February 4, 2026 of natural causes. He was currently a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Westmont, IL. He was 103 yrs old. Gordon was born in Vancouver Washington. He graduated from Union High School in 1941, and enlisted in the US Navy at the onset of WWII. He served 5 yrs active duty in the south pacific until the war’s end. He then remained an active Naval reservist for 37 years.
Following the war, Gordon trained to deep sea dive off the piers of Manhattan, then was transferred to Washington DC where he retrieved mines and torpedoes in the Potomac. At this time he met Ursula, a young nursing student at a USO dance. This encounter led to a romance and marriage that lasted 66 years.
Gordon became the father of 4 children, Barbara (Don), Jane (Joe), Gordon (Mary) and Scott (Craig). A grandfather to Julian (Nadia), Stephen (Maria), Jasper (Laurie), Simon (Jessie), Andrew and Lucy (Arjun) and Great Grandfather to Luca, Maddy, Mads, Aria, Dominic and Otto.
Professionally, Gordon went on to graduate from The American Television Institute of Technology in Chicago as an Electrical Engineer. He was employed by Motorola/Quasar/ Matsushita at various positions leading to Senior Project Engineer for all TV production at his retirement.
Gordon was very active and involved with his community and served as Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Counselor and Medinah Park District Commissioner and later President. He also was President of the Medinah Athletic Association. The founder and president of the Yellow Rockers Square Dance Club and President of the Metropolitan Chicago Association of Square Dancers. In addition he was a volunteer Minister of care for St. Walter’s Church, Roselle, and for Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL.
