Gregoria Matos, affectionately known as "Goyita," was born on May 9, 1935, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and cherished relationships until her passing on January 3, 2026, at her home. Goyita was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Goyita was a woman of strong character, known for her great sense of humor and candid nature. She had a remarkable ability to make people smile and was a source of strength for her family. Her love for her daughters and grandchildren was evident in everything she did. She found great joy in spending time with them, often cooking delicious meals and dancing jubilantly at family gatherings. Goyita's personality enriched the lives of her family and friends, making her a treasured presence in their lives.
She had a diverse range of interests, which included gardening, shopping, and spending quality time with loved ones. Goyita's passion for cooking was matched only by her love for lively family interactions, which created memories that will be cherished indefinitely. Her ability to effortlessly bring people together was a testament to her generous spirit and her commitment to family unity.
Goyita is survived by her stepdaughter Rosie Ayala, her stepson Miguel Mercado, and her three daughters, Nancy Felix, Cathy Perez, and Jeannette Matos. She also leaves behind a legacy of love in her eight grandchildren: Jonathan V. Perez, Cynthia M. Ramos, Justine E. Ibrahimovic, Ashley K. Felix, Anthony L. Felix, Xena K. Fabian, Brianna B. Fabian, and Alivia C. Matos, along with her ten great-grandchildren.
Her life will be honored at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels located at 450 W Lake St, Roselle, IL, on January 12, 2026. Friends and family are invited to gather from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Funeral Service commencing at 6:00 PM.
Goyita's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever remember her as a source of love, laughter, and strength.
