James (Jim) R. Kern, born on July 26, 1946, passed away on November 4, 2025.
Jim grew up in Des Plaines, Ill., surrounded by his four siblings, and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army. What followed was a long, successful career in business and a beautiful life as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Jim will be remembered by his family and friends as the dependable rock you could go to for help - always willing to help powerwash your garage or change an unreachable lightbulb. He always showed up for his children and grandchildren, whether that meant picking his girls up from the airport as their “Hugo” driver or attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He always looked forward to his Sunday morning tee time followed by family dinner at Nana and Papa’s house. He was the true epitome of hard work and continuously an example of what it meant to have a strong work ethic and be a provider.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, and his three daughters: Kerri, Jennifer (Steve) and Jodi. Jim was a proud Papa to Lexi, Tyler, Zachary, Jake and Payton and dear brother to Dave, Sue and Donnie. He also shared many cherished memories as Uncle Jim to his nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, (Charles), mother (Jane), and his brother (Jack).
