Jeff Rayner

Jeff Rayner, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Adopted by parents Jim and Peg, Jeff’s life was most notably filled by a love and passion for music. His interest originated from organ lessons from grandmother, Mimi, that spurred his focus on piano and singing bass in choir. Upon graduation from Elgin High School, he earned a music scholarship at Elgin Community College. This lifelong love of music inspired him to join choir groups, perform in community theater productions, and provide musical entertainment at home.

Jeff’s other hobbies included cooking and woodworking. He researched and accumulated the latest tools for each of his crafts, creating delicious recipes and even hand-making his home’s fireplace mantel. His attention to detail and high standards were unmatched.

Jeff possessed an innate ability to bring levity to even the most stressful situations. He will be remembered for his quick wit, playful spirit, and the occasional practical joke. A beloved friend, he never held back from supporting the community that loved him. As a father, Jeff worked hard to make the home a warm, lively place, filled with laughter, great snacks, and the perfect setup for movie nights.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Chris, and their two daughters, Lindsey and Allison (Connor). He is also survived by his father, Jim, along with his sisters, Jennifer (Mark) and Jane (Brett). The family extends to his in-laws, Paul and Nancy, his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a great community of friends.
