Jose D. Noguerra, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away with his sweetheart by his side on December 8, 2025, in Roselle, Illinois, at the venerable age of 86. Born on April 25, 1939, in the Philippines, Joe brought so much joy not only to his family but also to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
Joe was a steadfast traveler, forever eager to explore new destinations and experience the world's wonders alongside his beloved, Lilia. First meeting his soon-to be lifelong partner at Camp Crame in the Philippines, their long courtship of six years blossomed into a marriage that lasted over 55 beautiful years — a testament to the love they shared. He loved to dance with Lilia, adding a touch of magic to their celebrations and gatherings. Together, they created countless memories, always embarking on exciting excursions to different states and camp sites, ensuring every adventure was filled with amazing memories.
Joe's love for life extended to spirited adventures alongside his children. A prominent memory was his exhilarating ride on the first car of the American Eagle roller coaster at Six Flags with his daughter, Joy, introducing her to the thrill of roller coasters, a memory she would fondly recall for years to come. His spontaneous nature often saw him breaking into song during family dinners, filling the room with laughter. Weekends were a symphony of aromas from his kitchen, where he would whip up dishes of garlic fried rice, eggs, and crispy bacon, sharing hearty meals that brought everyone together. Among his family's fondest memories were the summers spent camping, whether toasting toasting marshmallows by the campfire or taking a boat out to explore a lake!
Throughout his life, Joe had a keen eye for capturing memories. He was never without some sort of recording device, at times wearing his video camera around his neck while holding his camera. Always eager to immortalize fleeting moments, whether it was a random family meal or opening Christmas presents, his videos and photos are treasures that will endure.
Joe's heart was particularly drawn to Christmas, a time his whole family cherished most dearly. He transformed his home into a winter wonderland, setting up intricate decorations, including a winter village inside and splendid Nativity scenes adorned with twinkling lights outside. His grandkids were especially captivated by his elaborate Christmas displays, which made the holiday season truly special for the entire family.
Joe's passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his legacy will surely live on through the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his precious wife Lilia Noguerra, his loving children, Joy Smith and Gerald Noguerra, and his cherished grandchildren—Chandler Lanham, Christian Lanham, and Gracen Lanham. He also leaves behind his half-brother, Julian Tan, whose laughter and camaraderie enriched Jose's life.
As we remember Jose D. Noguerra, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with adventurous travel, joyful gatherings, and profound love. His legacy will live on through the hearts of his family, whose lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
