Josefina “Josie” N. Reyes, born on February 19, 1937 in Bulacan, Philippines, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026 in Winfield, Illinois, surrounded by loved ones. To all who knew her, she was a radiant force—loving, caring, strong, hard working, stylish, generous, spunky, and always up for good tsismis.
Her steadfast commitment to her family and her community was woven through every chapter of Josie’s remarkable life. Josie was the beloved wife of Joe, who preceded her in death but left in her heart an indelible memory of partnership.
Josie’s journey brought her from the warmth and vibrancy of the Philippines to Illinois, where she built a new life and flourished as a Registered Nurse at Cook County Hospital. She touched countless lives with her skill, compassion, and resilience, emerging as not only a healer but an inspiration to those who worked alongside her.
Yet Josie’s dedication extended far beyond her work. She nurtured and guided her family, surrounding them in love and wisdom. She is survived by four loving children—Malou (Lito), Chet (Lainie), Joel (Ces), and Jesus “JR” (Jenny)—each a testament to her spirit and unwavering support. Her adoration and pride for her grandchildren—CJ, Nikki (Mark), Misha (Frances), Zach, Mason, Joey, Gabrielle, Jordyn, Jackson, and Julian—were unbounded, and she delighted in each of their milestones and joys. Josie also leaves a lasting impression on her great-grandchildren—Ethan, Riley, and Malakai—whose lives will be forever guided by her examples of strength, style, and devotion.
Josie was not only the heart of her family, but an active presence in her community. She served as President of the Bulacan Association, fostering a sense of pride and belonging for fellow Filipinos. With her husband she co-founded the Our Lady of Fatima Prayer Group which is still active after 25 years, nurturing faith and fellowship in those around her. Her deep devotion as a Catholic shone in her words and actions, as she found solace and meaning in her faith throughout life’s joys and challenges.
Those close to Josie will remember her flair for fashion and her love of being pampered—whether it was getting her hair and nails done or choosing the perfect ensemble. She carried herself with grace and elegance, and her presence, wherever she went, was unmistakable.
Josie’s warmth, generosity, and wonderfully spunky spirit made her a cherished companion. In moments of laughter and in quiet times of prayer, she built connections that will remain vibrant in the hearts of all she touched.
A visitation to honor Josie’s life will be held at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W Lake St, Roselle, IL 60172, on July 13, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and again on July 14, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Final viewing will take place at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels on July 15, 2026, at 9:00 am, followed by Mass.
Though we mourn the loss of Josie, her vibrant legacy endures—in the family she cherished, the lives she lifted, and the community she helped flourish. She will be deeply missed, dearly remembered, and forever loved.
