Joseph Peter Lewandowski peacefully entered the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 15, 2025. He brought joy and warmth to all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished.
Born on January 5, 1937, Joe was a beloved son of Claude and Mae Lewandowski. After graduating from Weber High School in 1955, he served his country with pride in the U.S. Army, fondly recalling his time at Fort Knox, where he felt honored to "guard the gold." On June 6, 1964, he married his sweetheart, Judith "Judy" Blafka, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey filled with love and laughter.
Throughout his career, Joe worked tirelessly in the telephone industry, navigating the many changes his profession underwent. He was a man of many interests, enjoying activities that brought him closer to others. From refereeing football and basketball games in his younger years to discovering a passion for skiing later in life, Joe enjoyed many kinds of sports. He participated in various leagues such as bowling and golf. His knack for cards games from Pinochle to Poker provided endless entertainment, especially during his recent years at Brookdale Senior Living in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Faith was at the core of Joe's life. A devoted member of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Hanover Park, Illinois, he and Judy joined in 1982, where they became integral parts of the community. Joe served diligently as both a deacon and trustee, embodying the spirit of service that defined his life.
As a father, Joe was a pillar of strength for his daughter, Jennifer (Mark) deRu. He took immense pride in his role as "Poppie" to his beloved grandchildren, Tiffany, Weston (Ann), and Nathan (Desirae) deRu. Recently, he celebrated the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to little Lilly deRu. He will be remembered fondly by his dear sister, Dolores (the late Aldo) Pizzoferrato, and as a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Judith, and his parents, Claude and Mae Lewandowski, as well as his brothers, Walter Lewandowski, John (Joyce) Lewandowski, and Richard (the late Karen) Lewandowski.
As we remember Joe, we honor a life well-lived, a spirit that brought happiness to those around him, and a legacy of love and faith that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends. We are so thankful for his certainty and ours that he now lives in the glorious presence of his Savior.
