Kenneth J. Klein, affectionately known as Ken, passed away on November 29, 2025, in Bloomingdale, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and creativity. Born on March 28, 1941, in Chicago, Ken's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with joy, purpose, and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone he met.
For over twenty years, Ken was the proud co-owner of Cora Lee Candies in Glenview, where his dedication to the art of candy-making earned him the affectionate nickname of “Candyman.” His craftsmanship and creativity shone through in his hand-made candy products like Cora Lee's World-Famous English Toffee and Grumpies (turtles). In addition to his endeavors in confectionery, he previously co-owned KAPCOA, a machine shop in Glenview, showing his versatility as an entrepreneur, he also previously co-owned a florist shop (Flowers by K & K), worked for Chicago Faucet and even delivered pizzas.
Ken was known not just for his business acumen but also for his welcoming nature. He had a unique ability to bring joy to those around him, characterized by his warmth, humor, and an infectious cheerfulness that persisted even during long days at the candy store during the busy holiday seasons. He was also known for his endearing quirk of pronouncing words phonetically to elicit reactions, showcasing his playful personality. He had an extraordinary head for numbers, easily recalling old phone number, figuring sizes, boxes and counts with impressive accuracy.
In addition to his professional life, Ken cherished his family deeply. He was a beloved husband to Bonnie, nee Pollworth, and a devoted father to Keith (Roxanne) Klein, Kristofer (Carolyn) Klein, and Andrew (Rebecca) Klein from his first marriage to Midge. He then lovingly welcomed Bonnie's daughters Ronnae Ondras and Terri Bruce as his own, into his heart. His legacy lives on through his adored grandchildren: Jordan Ondras, Corey Ondras, Autumn Klein, Karys Klein, Lorelai Klein, Piper Klein, Sophia Klein, Lincoln Klein, and Sadie Klein. Ken was also a dear brother to Anthony (Palma) Klein and a fond brother-in-law to Donald (Bonnie) Pollworth. He cherished the title of uncle to Linda Fawell, Karen Angelini, and Tony Klein III, and as a great uncle, he delighted in the lives of many nieces and nephews. He was also a dear nephew of Ernie Sims. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Dorothy Klein.
Ken's life was enriched by hobbies that brought him immense joy, including his passion for fishing, a highlight of his younger years as a racecar driver at local tracks, his weekly bowling league, and his remarkable culinary skills as an amazing cook. An active member of his community, Ken served as an elder and president of the congregation at St. John's Lutheran Church (Chicago) and embraced the joy of square dancing. He had a gutsy spirit for culinary adventure, always eager to explore new eateries and try an array of foods from different cultures, often with a sense of humor as he sampled the weird and wonderful.
In keeping with family traditions, Ken was a proud member of the Southport Men's Club in Chicago, following in the footsteps of his father and brother. The Klein family shares fond memories of driving to Marco Island, Florida, to visit his parents. After their passing, Ken and Bonnie carved out new memories by building a home on the cherished family property, where they welcomed family and friends alike. This beloved house now finds a new legacy with Keith Klein.
Ken Klein’s gentle spirit, unwavering joy, and kindness will always be remembered by those who had the pleasure to know him. His family and friends will gather for visitation on December 4, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a viewing on December 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM with services following at 11:00 AM at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels in Roselle, IL.
