Larry Ray Beckerdite

Larry Ray Beckerdite, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, left this world on February 20, 2026, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, Illinois, after a short and valiant battle with ALS. Born on May 14, 1953, in Independence, Missouri, Larry grew into a remarkable man whose kindness and astute nature touched the lives of many.

A proud alumnus, Larry earned his Bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and followed with a Master’s degree from North Central College. The early part of his career was spent as a respiratory therapist. He then transitioned to working as a healthcare network analyst prior to retirement. His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his passion for sharing it, as he dedicated himself to teaching religious education classes and actively participating in church ministry. Through his work with the Knights of Columbus, Larry made an indelible mark in his community, fostering bonds of faith and friendship. He valued his church friendships deeply.

Larry's personality was characterized by his warm spirit; he had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met. His numerous friends often became part of his extended family, each one cherished in their own right. He approached life with a kindness that resonated deeply, creating meaningful relationships and lasting memories with those lucky enough to know him.

In addition to being an exceptional family man, Larry had various interests that enriched his life. He was an avid reader, always looking to expand his horizons, and enjoyed lively activities such as fencing and dancing. He volunteered for many years with the Wheaton Municipal Band, serving several of those years as treasurer, and was fondly known as “the popcorn man”. Larry also had a nurturing side, taking pride in tending to his beautiful roses, which stood as a testament to his gentle heart and love for nature. One of his most cherished traditions was the annual fishing trip to Canada with his “brothers”, an adventure that encapsulated camaraderie, laughter, and a shared love for the great outdoors.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Beckerdite, and his loving daughters, Traci (Luis) Richard and Laura (Joseph) Laclede. He took immense pride in his grandchildren: Nicholas (Rachel) Richard, Alexis (Connor) Christensen, Blake Richard, Natalie Laclede, and Andrew Laclede. Each one brought joy to his heart, and he delighted in being a part of their lives. Larry's legacy also extends to his great-grandchildren, Malcolm Christensen and Walter Richard, who will forever carry a piece of his spirit within them. He is additionally mourned by his brother, Glenn (Barbara) Beckerdite.

Preceding him in death were his dear parents, Raymond and Falba Beckerdite, who instilled in him the values of love, compassion, and the importance of family.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his legacy of kindness, devotion, and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
