Calogera “Lila” Pelagio, 85, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20th surrounded by her family.
Born in Palermo, Sicily, Lila immigrated to Chicago with her family in her early twenties. She met her husband, the late Vito Pelagio, and married in 1959. After her husband’s early death, Lila committed her life to supporting her four children in any way that she could, sacrificing so that her family did not go without. Despite the challenges she faced, she never complained and always persevered.
Lila was the devoted mother to Rosa (Bill) Wayda, Fina (Ron) Klco, Francie (Pat) Presta and Vito (Lisa) Pelagio. To her eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and the many others who loved her, Lila was lovingly known as Nonnina. Her presence, love and strength will be sorely missed but her legacy of always putting family first and living with faith will continue through the generations.
Lily’s life will be honored at Evangel Church in Hanover Park on Thursday, October 24, 2019. Visitation will be from 9:30am – 12pm, with a service from 12 – 1pm. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in River Grove.
Her family is thankful for the outpouring of love and support they have received. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appr
