Maria Theresa Fitzgerald, (née Madonia), beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 15th after a long illness that she fought bravely. She was born on September 6th, 1959 to the late Theresa and Peter Madonia. Maria was the loving wife of Daniel Fitzgerald for 37 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. She was the proud mother of two daughters, Carolyn and Catherine, and never missed an opportunity to express her love for them, often using an endless list of one of a kind nicknames. Maria and Daniel fostered an environment filled with humor, and instilled the meaning of family that includes humans as well as pets.

Maria was the cherished sister of Jo (Dan) Lisowski, Tony (Jenny) Madonia, and the late Concetta Madonia. She was the caring sister-in-law to Geri (Rodney) Hannah, Penny (Bob) Mackey, Mike (Laurie) Fitzgerald, Chris (the late Jim) Kelley, Kathy (Jim) Novak, the late Mary Fitzgerald (the late), and Phil Fitzgerald (the late). She adored her nieces and nephews, as well as all their children. She took great joy in being part of their lives, as she proudly displayed every card, art, and memory. They brought her so much happiness, which radiated whenever she saw or spoke about them. She was a beloved friend to so many, known for her sharp wit and unparalleled generosity.

Maria was a strong and loyal woman. She was known for giving the best hugs and was always ready to lend a listening ear. Maria’s world famous salad dressing, garlic dip, lasagna, and cucumber sandwiches were always highly requested at events. Maria never waivered when sharing the recipe, but we all know her secret ingredient was her love. She had an unwavering belief that a good cup of tea and hot soup could cure any problem, and was eager to provide comfort to those who needed it.

Maria’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She prayed her many rosaries and novenas and found comfort and strength in her beliefs. She was an example of love, devotion, and self-lessness. Her legacy will carry on through anyone fortunate enough to call to know her.
