Marilyn Jo Sudd St. Pierre (née Catarsi), 81, passed away on May 7, 2025. Marilyn, the youngest of two children of Elio and Josephine Catarsi (née Fassero) was born in Chicago on March 20, 1944. Her family, including her beloved sister Lea, lived above a barber shop on Oakley Avenue in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood. They moved to Franklin Park in 1951. After graduating high school Marilyn entered the United States Civil Service and was stationed at O’Hare Field, where she met Gilbert Bartholomew “Dan” Sudd (AFRES). They married on April 14th, 1966, moved to Holland, Michigan and welcomed their first child (Daniel) in 1967. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to then-rural Schaumburg, Illinois, and built their new home. Family members recall the large, quartz hearth constructed by Marilyn’s father Elio, the greenhouse built by her father-in-law Joseph, and Gilbert’s robust garden and orchard. In 1972 and 1974, Marilyn gave birth to their second (Diana) and third (Douglas) children respectively. Marilyn took great pride in cooking and baking for loved ones at family gatherings and being an active member of St. Walter Catholic Church. In retirement, Gilbert and Marilyn travelled, visiting
family and maintaining connections to the United States Air Force Reserves until Gilbert passed away from heart disease in 2011. In 2014, through her community at St. Walter Parish, Marilyn met Gary St. Pierre, a CPA from Bloomingdale, Illinois. They married in 2015 and moved to a townhome close to their church. The couple enjoyed theater, dining out, card games, church activities and time with their combined family of seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Mr. St. Pierre passed away in 2020. In July 2023 Marilyn was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Through the care of her doctors and nurses, family, and strong perseverance, Marilyn lived her remaining days doing what she loved best: spending time with family and friends, baking, traveling, and being active in her faith. She died at home, surrounded by family, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marilyn is survived by her three children: Daniel Sudd (Karen) of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Diana Sudyka (Jay Ryan) of Evanston, Illinois and Douglas Sudd of Fort Myers, Florida; and five grandchildren: Kerry Glass (Stephanie), Mason Glass, Katie Joseph (Jeffrey), Paul Sudd, and Isabel Ryan. Marilyn is also survived by her four stepchildren: Juli Braun, Ben St. Pierre (Sara), Beth Morris (John), and Elisa Nielsen (Brent); eight step-grandchildren: Jacob Braun, Mara St. Pierre, Tanner St. Pierre, Lucile Morris, David Morris, Corey Moore (Sarah), William Nielsen, and Sophia Nielsen; and two step-great-grandchildren: Leonidas Moore, and Enso Moore. In lieu of flowers, it was Marilyn’s wish for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society , and Pancreatic Cancer North America .
