Mark William Rossi, 71, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Mark was born on January 13, 1955 in Oak Park, IL to the late (2016) Arthur Rossi and the late (2016) Beverly (nee Norton) Rossi.
Mark will always be married to the love of his life, Anna “Nina” (nee Marzullo) Rossi, they were married 51 years ago on May 10, 1975, and met when they were 16 years old while attending Proviso East Highschool in Maywood, IL. Mark played football, wrestled, and discovered an important lesson that would guide his entire life: if he wanted something badly enough, he simply had to work harder than everyone else.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Nina and their 3 loving children: Jason, Lisa, Deanna and Grandson Nicholas Rossi. Mark had a generous heart and was a loving father figure to his grandson Nick, taking him in and raising him as his own son.
Mark is also survived by his sister: Susan Lyons (Greg) and his niece Theresa Lyons and his nephew Jeremy Lyons (Emily); his Auntie Angeline “Ang” Rossi and Uncle Ronald (Wendy) Rossi and the late Uncle Bruno, the late Aunt Lorraine Surico and grandparents, the late Joseph and Florence Rossi.
Mark is survived by his mother-in-law Maria Angelina Marzullo (nee Lanetti), his brother in laws Rocco Marzullo (Nancy), David Marzullo (Marybeth) and his nieces Andrea Bartlett (Vince), Gina Palasz (Ron), Maria Hoyt (Cameron) and Alyssa Marzullo.
Mark’s life was defined by hard work, integrity, leadership, and love for his family. That philosophy became the foundation of a career that began as a construction laborer and grew into one of extraordinary achievement. A respected construction professional whose career spanned more than five decades, Mark built not only remarkable structures across the United States but also lasting friendships, trusted mentorships, and a legacy of perseverance.
For Mark, construction was more than a profession—it was a calling. He often described his first experience on a construction job site as something close to love at first sight. He was captivated by the teamwork, purpose, and visible results of each day's labor. Watching skilled tradesmen work together to transform plans into reality sparked a passion that would remain with him for the rest of his life.
Mark loved solving problems, mentoring others, and creating safe environments in some of the industry's most challenging and complex projects. He believed in surrounding himself with smart people, learning something new every day, and passing his knowledge on to the next generation.
One of Mark's greatest accomplishments was helping build and grow a successful company, Leander-Rossi Construction alongside his father and colleagues. Later in his career, he became a trusted project site manager and troubleshooter, earning a reputation as the person called upon to handle the most demanding assignments.
Mark believed deeply in helping others, keeping his word, learning from mistakes, and appreciating those around him. He took pride not only in the buildings he helped create but also in the people he mentored and encouraged throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the structures he built, the lives he touched, and the family he loved so dearly.
Family and friends were the foundation of his life. His greatest partner was his wife, Nina. Early in their marriage, they made a decision together: Nina would focus on raising their family while Mark worked to provide for them. Throughout the decades that followed, Mark often said he could not have asked for a better partner. It is such a beautiful love story. Their marriage was built on mutual respect, trust, sacrifice, and love. Mark sincerely loved his friends that he considered family. He was so proud and blessed to have so many amazing people who would do anything for him and his family. The “Geezer” crew meant more than words can say to Mark. He will continue to join you every September in spirit.
Mark loved listening to loud classic rock music (even if it was waking up the late sleepers in the family). He loved to make breakfast for his family every Sunday while listening to his favorite tunes. He was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. If you ever watched a Bears game with him, you may be hard of hearing now as he would scream at the T.V. for most of the game. Since his grandson Nick was little, their tradition was to watch every single game together and he promised Nick that he will continue to do this.
Mark Rossi built a life worth remembering, and his legacy will continue for generations to come.
We Love You so much and you will forever be in our hearts until we meet again. For now, all of your loved ones have gained an amazing and strong guardian angel to watch over us. May you rest in peace.
