Maryrose Magro Mendoza, aged 82, passed away on August 1, 2024, in
South Elgin, Illinois. Born on November 27, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois,
Maryrose was a cherished figure in her community and beloved by her
extensive family.
Maryrose was a quintessential family woman, deeply rooted in traditions
that brought joy and cohesion to her loved ones. Known for her
legendary Pasta Sundays, she found immense pleasure in cooking and
gathering her family around the table. Her home was a hub of warmth,
laughter, and delicious aromas, especially during the holidays.
She was a widow, preceded in death by her husband, Peter Mendoza Sr.,
her father, Peter Magro, and her mother, Rose Magro Spataro. MaryRose’s
legacy continues through her family: three sons, Tony Mendoza, Peter
Mendoza Jr., and John Mendoza; daughters-in-law Karen, Vicki, and
Kelly Mendoza; nine grandchildren, Megan, Joey, Carissa, Marena,
Anessa, Matthew, John Jr., Tom, and Vinny Mendoza; two great-
grandchildren, Penelope (Penny) Mendoza and Shai Thomas; and her
sister, Georgia Hofmann, along with her brother-in-law Arthur Hofmann.
Beyond her family, MaryRose cherished her friendships, often spending
time with her close friends Geri Schweig and Sue Hoggay. Whether it was
sharing meals, watching movies, playing cards, or cheering on the
Chicago Cubs at home or at the games, she valued these moments
greatly, creating memories that her friends and family will treasure.
