Nancy A. Serpico, 76, of Park Ridge passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Devoted wife of Donald “DA” for 54 years. Proud mother of Dena (T. Craig) McFadyen, Melissa (CW Paul Kamhout) Serpico, and Amanda (Michael) Serpico Sage. Loving grandmother of Paloma, Valentino, Milana, Alessia, Serena, and Estella. Daughter of the late Guy and late Yolanda Accettura. Fond twin sister of Carol (William) Federighi, sister of Richard (the late Patricia) Accettura, and Linda Sassone. Daughter-in-law of the late Philip and the late Beatrice Serpico. Sister-in-law of the late Philip (the late Joanne) Serpico, Rosann (the late Gilbert) Cataldo, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born on July 24, 1949 in Chicago. Her pleasant childhood was spent playing with her siblings and cousins in both the Taylor Street neighborhood, and later the west side. When she was fourteen, her family moved to Elmwood Park.
At Elmwood Park High School, Nancy met her husband Don, and also made many of her life long friends. After high school, she attended Northeastern Illinois University and received a degree in Early Childhood Education. She later received her Master’s of Arts in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.
Nancy and Don married in 1971, and went on to have three daughters, Dena, Melissa, and Amanda. Nancy was a devoted mother, and her girls’ biggest fan. She spent years coaching her daughters in various sports, and volunteering for many of their activities.
She spent her career years as an early childhood educator at Elmwood Elementary. Her final professional years were spent as the principal of the Elmwood Park Early Childhood Center, where she is remembered for treating the staff like her own family.
After retirement, Nancy enjoyed playing golf, traveling abroad, and spending most winters in Florida with Don. She also spent a lot of time with her grandkids, with some saying she was their “best friend”.
A constant throughout Nancy’s life were her amazing friends. Monday night cards, vacations, and birthday dinners were the things that brought her great joy, and “a lot of laughs”!
Although Nancy will be missed tremendously, she will always be remembered for her sense of humor, integrity, and love and loyalty for her family and friends.
